  • is this a good cord for flex 3401 need to know asap

I just got a flex 3401 and just picked up a yellow jacket 12 gauge 50 foot cord for it is that good it was expensive but I run a detail business so should be able to pay it in no time question is is 12 g over kill or better for safety also is a 3 prong plug ok cause the buffer doesn't use a extra ground wire right ?

12 guage should be fine. I don't like to use anything smaller for power tools. I can run my portable halogen shop lights and a buffer on an extension cord with 3 plugs on the end with no problem. 12 gauge is rated around 20 amps. With 1000 watt lights and a 500 watt buffer, you're only running 12.5 amps. Even if there's a surge on startup there should be no problem. Ant the 3 prong is ok too. It's standard on that type of extension cord and required for certain equipment. Just make sure you're not running a lot more equipment on the same circuit at the same time.

The manual for the G110v2 gives the following info in a "Minimum Gauge" table:

      Cord length/rating gauge of wire

      0-25'/18
      26-50'/16
      51-100'/16
      101-150'/14

This assumes 120v and up to 6 amps.

So, is your 12gauge cord overkill? Maybe, but it's better to err on the safe side than just cheap out it.

A 50 ft 12 AWG is a wise and sound investment. It will power anything with less voltage drop from lesser cords. If you ever want a Master Blaster (19 Amp machine), you will want the 12 AWG cord.
