  • meguiar's da power system question

    hi,

over the weekend i picked up a meguiar's da power system with hopes of finally bringing my car back to life.

on a budget so I didn't opt out for a more advanced DA. Plus I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to this.

I bought the compounding and waxing pads as well (it came with the polishing pad).
I bought the ultimate compound as well.

I wanted to know would using the 105 and 205 be better for me and really more importantly ok to use with this tool since it is the drill attachment.

right now my plan was to use:
    Clay bar
    UC
    Chemical Guys final polish
    Chemical guys Pete's 53

Was going to swap out the polish and was for the Ultimate polish and Ultimate wax but I actually had these products in my house so decided to put them to use.

I should add... there are some parts that require sanding as well.

You certainly can use M105 & M205 with the DAPS.

M105 has a little more cut than UC. M205 is a beautiful and versatile finishing polish, which the UP is based on. Whether you will need the 105 will depend on many factors and you won't know until you do a test spot.

What you have sounds fine. Try that first and see how you go...

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

hey thanks! I contacted one of our local vendors and asked him if i can get a sample of 105 and compare the outcome of both. A few friends mentioned the 105 to me and said I wont over look it. Hopefully I'm still on track with my goal of detailing my car this week.

Based on what I was reading... the UC doesn't work that well when wet sanding as well? or is this a false statement?

PS: I really like your quote i think it fits my car exactly.

It really depends on how deep the sanding marks are (what grade sandpaper you finished out with) and how hard/soft your particular paint is.

I have seen UC take out sanding marks several times with a DA. With the DAPS, you might struggle. Again, a test spot would be required.

thank you! I really appreciate it. I was really worried the DAPS wouldn't be enough but I am a bit more re-assured =) Will be doing my spot test hopefully tomorrow.

What is it apart from the sanding marks you're trying to correct? Any chance of posting a few pics in here?

It's hard to suggest one product over another until we know exactly what you've got to correct.

Test spot is the perfect start!

We want to jump right in here and say this: if you're really a noob at this as you claim, put the sand paper down. You will really struggle to remove sanding marks with the DAPS even if you're running M105 on it. Without seeing the issue that you believe needs sanding, it could be that it in fact does not. Or it could be so bad that even sanding won't remove the problem. Regardless, once you put those sanding marks in you then have to get them out. And that means using either a rotary buffer or a full size DA with microfiber pads. Even then, your sanding marks had better be of high quality and sufficiently fine in order to make removal relatively easy even with those tools. And that means refining your sanding down to 2500 or even 3000 grit. If you aren't prepared to do that, you do not want to start sanding as you'll likely make the situation worse.

                  ^^ Good advice.

I misunderstood your posts and thought the sanding marks were already there...
