Clay Bar Longevity

Hi,

About the Clay Bar....is it meant to be re-useable? If so, how many uses should I expect to get out of it considering that it will only be used on a car with a typically light to moderate amount of bonded contaminants at the time that I use it?

Yes, clay is reusable. How long it lasts really depends on how dirty and how large your vehicles are.

I've heard estimates that vary from five to twenty uses. Personally, I don't know how long one lasts. Actually that's not quite true, I know they last exactly until I drop them on the floor. That's when I toss them. I do a lot of "spot" claying so I don't have a feel for how long it takes to really "wear one out".

Big hint; break a bar into smaller pieces to use. Smaller chunks are easier to knead and when you fumble one onto the floor you can toss it and grab a good one. I like to break a 75gm bar into at least three pieces and a 200 gram bar into four or more pieces.

Medium hint: Once you've formed your clay "patty" use only one side. Fold it over and you instantly have clean clay. If you use both sides you have to spend a lot more time kneading.

Yea, I figured it would be unreasonably expensive to buy a new clay bar every time you had only used your previous one for a single job. Thanks for the advice.
