  • Dark metallic blue with pearl effect

Hey MOL so as the the title implies I been working on my 2001 Audi A6 wagon with the said paint for about three years now. As I approach the time for a detail job I kinda want to skip out on the UC as much as possible since it's aggressive. My method I always use on my Audi is

    1) wash with Gold Class or UW&W

    2) clay bar if needed

    3) ultimate compound

    4) ultimate polish

    5) ultimate wax

I had the chance to try out white wax on my parent's metallic light blue honda odyssey minivan and the gloss it left behind is just amazing. If I used white wax on my dark blue Audi what can I expect from it? How about black wax? Like I said I want something a bit more gentle yet effective thats going to enhance the gloss and depth of my dark paint. What can I expect from the each product in terms of gloss? Wax wise I will continue with ULW. If I use UC its probably going to be to remove some light scratches on the hood left behind by the local cats that love to climb up at night....

You might be able to remove some swirls, therefore it will still be able to add gloss. It will be a good in-between-full detailing. So, you can wash, white wax then top with Ultimate Liquid. Same goes if you choose black wax.

White Wax and Black Wax are both cleaner waxes, white has more cleaners (which can help in removing minor swirls) black wax is also a cleaner wax with more polishing oils, it's not as potent as white wax but it can yield deeper wetter look.

This thread should give you an idea of what white wax can accomplish.

I would pick up some M205. It offers more correction than UP and it leaves your paint glossy. It's very versatile if you use it with a DA.

Are you using a DA or doing this by hand? You could use UC for those spot corrections where the scratches are a little deeper.

Go for it, audi_nicoya209, but I would just go for it on my next quick detail. But I believe you've achieved that optimum finish with the UC/UP/Ulimate Wax combo, it's hard to beat (if not impossible to beat) when one uses a fully dedicated product for detailing, rather than "short cuts"

i was thinking (since i already have these products in my meguiar's bag)

          wash with gold class
clay bar (needs it this time)
          white wax
ultimate polish (for extra gloss and depth)
          top off with ULW

          Thoughts?

I would not bother with UP. It will remove white wax. Other than that you are good to go.

            wash
            clay bar
            white wax
            ULW

You should invest in a DA. It is money well spent with even better results. Also since you are doing this by hand, you will be fine using UC.

now regarding the white wax application, for the van i used a standard yellow foam pad with excellent results. on my Audi should i use microfiber pad thats included with the white wax or should i just use the yellow foam pad? i have very minimal swirling on the Audi...

Try the foam first. If you need a little more bith then go for the microfiber.
