  • Wheel crusty accumulation is killing me.

I've been again fighting a loosing battle with a wheel. I got these Forte' wheels when I bought this car and now that the salt is done for the year, I decided to get them on the car. 1 wheel has this very thick and rough accumulation, maybe it's brake pad dust, maybe it's metallic dust. All I know is that meguiars APC did nothing, Meguiars tire and wheel cleaner did nothing and even the strongest thing in my supply, Meguiars Wheel Brightener didn't do anything to it.

So I went to a very firm bristled nylon brush with the a wheel brightener. I could slowly wear at the crud but in doing so I'm running the clear coat. I would prefer to chemically attack this while not hurting the clear coat, I don't have a clue of any chemical that will touch this stuff.

I'm frustrated. Any ideas? Just keep abraiding at it with this brush and Wheel brightener and hope that I can later polish the clear back to an acceptable level? I hate this stuff!

They are nice looking wheels, but this one is just horrible! The other three have none of this stuff, so I suspect something unusual had once happened to this wheel that the other three didn't experience.

I don't know what that is but you may want to use some UC and UP to clean up those scratches. A dynacone would be very useful in cleaning that right up.

What about trix or just ironx?

I have similar wheels on my other car, and had similar crud on my wheels in the same places. I used Var-sol (paint thinner) a soft tooth brush, and a soft cloth, copious amounts of water from the hose, and GENTLY cleaned the wheels up nicely. Let me tell you, it was not easy. I removed the wheels, set them flat, soaked in the thinner, and went at it. Took almost two hours to do all four and they now look new. Not a brush scratch anywhere. Man, I feel horrible for you with those scratches. Hope they come out with a polish.

Guz, is Iron X any more potent than the wheel brightener? Is of my understanding that the wheel brightener is Meguiars most effective product for use in this.

IronX is kind of a whole different thing, focused on removing iron dust.

I'd say its worth a shot, as long a safe for those surfaces.

I wonder if the DUB wheel cleaner would do anything considering it is similar to sonax. I am also wondering if clay would do anything. I have never used wheel brightner but I think you are right in saying that it is some strong stuff. It almost looks like it is cement. I would give ironx or trix a shot as someone stated and see if that does anything.

TRIX is IronX and TarX sort of together... but probably a little weaker each way.
