  • Roof Leak water damage

Below are two pictures of a single stage painted trunk lid. It's not a factory paint job and done a few years ago with apparent weather aging. The car was parked in a commercial building with leaking roof. The roof is probably an built-up bituminous roof. It's my belief the rain water from the roof leak is either acidic or alkaline after passing through the build-up roofing materials. I clayed the entire trunk lid, followed with some Meguiar's water spot remover on foam applicator rubbed by hand, followed with #80 on a microfiber finishing pad on a Porter-Cable at speed 4 and then tried some #300 on a microfiber cutting pad with the PC, again at speed 4.

I think the next step maybe wet sanding. Any other suggestions?

These are before pictures. "After" shows little, to no improvement. The water trail cannot be felt.

The tape points to the area the water dripped directly onto and pooled before running off. In the upper
right of the photo is just some rolled up plastic to protect the car if the roof leaks again.

There is a trail where the water ran off the trunk lid down to the trunk edge into the gutter and the down onto the chrome bumper.
No damage to the chrome bumper. The heart of the water trail is slightly a different color.

In this photo, the water trail starts in the upper right and runs down to the lower middle, just to the right of the key fob.

Thanks for any input regarding this problem.
