  • Which Meguiar's products for my 1988 Volvo Bertone..........

Finally pickup my Volvo, now what do I use on it to make it sparkle? The paint is in good condition, "silver". Interior is leather in excellent condition. The dash & side panel's are leather, plastic, & wood, & that's REAL WOOD, NOT Plastic. Wheels are I think aluminum, maybe Chrome. So now I need to get to work. What Meguiar's products do I start with? Ron.

    Define "Good condition" paint.

    Is it oxidized?

    Are there subsurface defects?

How about swirl marks, bird droppings, environmental contaminants like dust, smokestack particulates, smog, (I see you're in Lancaster CA), water spots?

Has the vehicle ever been in a crash and repainted? (You may need to check the depth of the paint if it has been.)

    Sun fading?

How did the previous owner(s) take care of the car? Do you know?

And care regimens for aluminum wheels and chrome wheels are 180o different from one another.

I would suggest you get answers to these questions before you ask about the best product mix to use.

Ill also ask how much of an enthusiast u r?

If hardcore then I say go the professional route, if just a weekend warrior who's doing that 1 car go the consumer route.

As one who makes his living detailing cars, we would expect you to say that.

But Ron's a bit of an enthusiast and he's been to our class. He wants to do this himself, like most MOL members do, and we're here to help him out.

Ron, I have to say I'm a bit jealous as I love those Volvo Bertone coupes! Any chance you can post up a couple pix of the current state of the paint? What do you know about how this car has been maintained the past 26 years? What are you goals for the car? If the paint is original but has just lost some of it's shine, then we wouldn't hesitate to go with the product line up we use in class on regular basis - Ultimate Compound, Polish & Wax. But if that paint appears to be quite thin or worn you may want to proceed very cautiously at first. 26 years of loving polishing could have left that paint quite thin and burn through becomes a very real possibility.

          Again, pictures would be great.
