  • TintCoat is what?

Starting a new Chevy later this week with what they call "Crystal Red Tintcoat"

Is the tintcoat something unique or just a metal flake?
Or is it metal flake and a slightly red tinted clear coat?

    Any precautions?
    Very few defects.
Anticipate using MFDA and Correction Compound.
    Followed by M205 on MF.
Test area will tell me what works.

    Thanks

Here is a great article Mike Phillips wrote on the topic over at autogeek
Single Stage Paint - Tinted Clears - Basecoat/Clearcoat - Embedded Dirt

You just want to keep in mind that your should use the least aggressive method to get the job done.

Only thing different is that you will see some color on your pads as the clear is not really clear.

Thanks for the reference. It's a Corvette, test area will reveal if hard or harder clear !!

          Re: TintCoat is what?

Whether it's a tinted clear, a tri-color, pearl, or just a regular old base/clear system, as long as you're dealing with a fairly new car you're dealing with basically the same thing - a catalyzed, modern paint finish. There is no difference in how you approach any of them as far as any requiring some sort of special process. But as with any paint system, each particular vehicle is going to behave and respond to input in its own special little way; some will be harder than others, some will frustratingly delicate and mar with ease, and others will be so stubbornly hard that you're afraid of how aggressive you have to get with it. The tinted clear coats will impart a bit of color to your polishing pads, but that's the only the immediate visual clue you'll get.

Do your typical test spot to get started, David, and adjust from there. Do things the way you've been doing them for the past few years and you'll be just fine.

            Thanks Michael, for the comments.

I need to get the car done and out of the shop. Sink holes aren't a concern.....but flooding on the other hand....

This is one midwest winter I am happy to have avoided. 80's and sunny here. Washed my car back on January 5th and I've been able to maintain it with a daily QD ever since. Love southern FL in the winter.

Owner of this Corvette headed to Florida when the detail is finished. Not sure when he can sneak out of here and not be covered with snow/ice/fly ash(cinders)/sand/salt. Cities have used up budgets on salt and fixing broken water mains. Boil orders becoming common. Frost is approaching 5 feet deep and fire hydrant lines in danger of freezing. High wind and flood watch for tomorrow. Not to mention accursed potholes. Yeah, enjoy Florida, can't imagine what Wisconsin is like.
