  • Ultimate Wax...I am impressed

I am usually an M16 person, but I tried UW back in October and it still has great beading and water sheeting. Where I live, after November, I never wash the car until March. Wash it and drive a few miles and it is covered in salt, so why bother. Anyway today (Dec. 28th)
it was above freezing so I washed the car, and UW was still there. three months.. My next wash will probably be in March as the temps are going back down, 0F tomorrow. road will be covered salt for months, (my black car will be white) so I will let you people know if UW is as good as M16. Happy New Year all.

I hope u at least go to a touch less wash once in awhile to get the salt off if your not washing it yourself till march.

      ^^^^ What he said!

I would add a Rinse Free Wash (and Wax) to that as well.

Blueline.. i agree the de-icing agents such a magnesium chloride, calcium chloride and sodium chloride [rock salt] are all HORRIBLE for car paint... If you can do a waterless once a week it would be best....

I would recommend refreshing that wax with some Ultimate Quick Wax, just to be safe to have some protection to keep the car looking good.

I know some people who live in the pacific northwest and they swear by even just rinsing down their cars after extended drives to remove the de-icing agents and say their finishes last SUBSTANTIALLY longer than friends who dont rinse..

How many layers of wax did you put on car?

I only put on one layer. As for doing a rinse less or touch less wash over the winter, I don't feel it is of much use. First, salt will never hurt good paint, and with a good wax on it, the wax will protect any microscopic imperfections. Second, if you spend 10$ for a touch less wash, and drive a mile down the road , it is covered in salt again. I am more concerned about salt damaging my undercarriage, shocks, suspension, etc. so do I have my vehicles oiled every year. My 06 has rarely been washed in the winter, and being a black car, is mostly white during the winter. I have been using M16 on it since new in 06, oiled yearly, and still looks new, both paint wise, and underneath. Anyway, I like the Ultimate Wax. Mentioned to Mike in another post back late October that I would pop back and let him know my thoughts.

If I'm not mistaking he's refering to applying some form of protection for his undercarriage like WD-40 or similar?

More power to you...I personally would not feel comfortable not washing my car at least once a week in those conditions and re applying a QW.

That's awesome that UW is lasting that long for you. I also get decent results, about 3 weeks on my windshield and 8 weeks on my paint. But I am a heavy daily driver. Bit including my big beautiful yellow detailing van, my personal car gets about 300-400 miles per week, down here on the south with no salt on the roads, those miles still eat a wax up fast.

Some of you lucky folks that don't live up here in the rust belt of the USA don't get the fact that if you stop at the power wash on the way home and blast most of the salt of, by the time you drive a few miles to your house to park it for the night the car is covered in salt again as well as the doors are frozen shut and the windows are frozen shut. The outside of the car turns to ice as your trying to wash it. The car is pure white with salt within a few miles and you only wasted your money and time.

is it a DIY thing or you pay extra like a Ziebart coating?

Certain shops will apply an oil like substance to the under body of the car. I imagine its not much different than spraying straight up engine oil all over the underbody. My jeeps leak so much oil it self oils itself. Seriously.

Yeah, I cant understand why people cant spray their vehicles off in the winter? Are the roads wet from Novemeber to March? We get some snow here and they salt the roads, but within days its dry again. Yeah, the salt dust kicks up some, but its better than it being caked in salt.

I typically spray mine off after any snow event. Park it in my garage and she dries overnight. No frozen stuff.

Regular motor oil contains detergents which are harmfmul to rubbers and plastics on the car, can cause swelling and cracking. A lot of people use a 10 weight non detergent, or chainsaw bar oil, and hydraulic fluid. The combination of bar oil leaves it sticky enough to cling forbtge winter abbd the hydraulic fluid provides the protection

Cars up here don't rust from the outside, they rot out from inside. The backs of the fenders, insides of doors (collecting inside of the pinch at the bottoms) back sides of quarters or truck beds. You may go weeks and weeks with out du roads and your driving in a brine mist. You can't really do anything about it.

No, definitely not WD-40. That stuff will rot rubber and soften plastic in a short time. Not something would I put near my cars; it is basically kerosine. No we have rust preventive companies like Rust Check, or Krown, who, not only spray the undercarriage, but all of the inner panels, inner doors, trunk, truck lid, engine bay, hood, etc. It is not petroleum based so it doesn't hurt rubber, and it smells real "purdy" to boot. It creeps into every crevasse in the car. (I think Zeibart uses a hard wax type coating which peels off, or that the way it was years ago) I get it done every fall ($90.00) and they will guarantee rust free for life.
