  • Mequiar's NXT speed detailer sprayed on after new paint job ???

I just got my front bumper repainted about 2 weeks ago and today, i inadvertently sprayed some Meguiar's G-13224 NXT speed detailer (purple bottle)
on half of the bumper, worked it in and wiped it off....Then i totally remembered the "rule" about NOT waxing your car for at least 30 days, in order to properly cure it...
BUT doesn't this apply to certain speed detailers as well?

Granted, i sprayed the detailer on my bumper 2 weeks after it was painted...but a part of me feels like i messed something up on my new paint job?
Are there any "harsh" chemicals that could affect a new paint job's curing time?? ANY information/insight on this subject would be greatly appreciated... thanks!

Usually you don't want to apply any sort of wax or sealant to fresh paint because it will prevent the paint from "out gassing" or curing properly. As long as the NXT Speed Detailer has no sort of wax like or hydrophobic properties to it, I would think it would be ok. Hopefully someone with a better knowledge of fresh paint and NXT Speed Detailer chimes in to help out more. Good Luck!

I have an old bottle of NXT speed detailer, I never liked the stuff really, but I do recall it mentioning something about building up protection on the paint and making it hydrophobic. I do not know if this will affect the out gassing as much as a typical wax, but I wouldn't say it is good. I don't know how to resolve any issues now that its on the paint. New paint is pretty sensitive.

I believe the NXT is pure polymer and not a blend of wax and polymer like the Ultimate detailer...

          So am I screwed?...
It is for sure, going to mess with the curing of the paint? No other remedy?

I wouldn't lose all hope yet, you could always try and strip it off, I'm not an expert on new paint, but it seems to me if you removed the stuff keeping the gas in, it should be fine. I would recommend a dawn wash a couple times over the newly painted area, that shouldn't hurt the paint at all. Someone please chime in if this is not safe, but anyways, I would stay away from say Isopropyl Alcohol as, that seems a bit aggressive for new paint, might be fine, but I wouldn't use it to strip the QD.
I think a strong wash should safely remove the relatively weak bond that the Quick Detailer left safely.

Your paint is most likely just fine! But, I understand the worry! We all want our cars perfect!

Really? ... wouldn't using dish soap hurt the newly painted-on clear coat?
I'm just worried that the dish soap will be too "harsh" for any freshly painted surface.

If anyone can help offer any insight, please do... because it's driving me nuts just
thinking about the potential damage that I might have done

You didn't kill your car. Give it a nice Meg's shampoo or two then have a whiskey.

NXT Speed Detailer is not a wax or a polymer sealant. It dates back to before we had any hardcore hydrophobic polymers (UQD was the first such product) so you don't even have that to be concerned with. Anything it might leave behind is not going to be very long lasting at all so it's not sealing the paint in any way and/or preventing proper out gassing of the paint solvents. You did nothing wrong whatsoever, so don't sweat it.
