  • new paint question

I just had my 95 GMC repainted with its original victory red, two stage. The shop did ok but I did find some small cloudy spots. I was told it had something to do with not buffing out some sand marks. Long story short I took my truck back and they buffed it and many of the spots are gone but there are some that remain. I do not want to bother taking it back to the shop as I would rather do it myself. What kind of product do I need to purchase? Can I just do the little spots or do I need to do the whole panel? I do have an old buffer (rotate style). There are only 7 or 8 spots, all about the size of marbles. They only show up in certain lights. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

Yeah, I will when I get the time and the correct light to see them. There are just 7 or 8 of them left. They are rounding spots about the size of marbles and they don't stick out all the time. I would like to get rid of them but I want to be careful obviously since it's brand new paint.

While we wait for pix, we've got a couple of questions for you:

First, how comfortable are you with running a rotary buffer? It's pretty easy to have things go wrong in a hurry if you don't know what you're doing so we just want to be sure you're comfortable with the tool.
Second, it's a bit odd that you'd have marble sized spots of sanding marks still present in the paint. It's not a big surprise to see uncorrected sanding marks on edges, near trim or in fairly broad areas, but round marble sized areas just sounds strange. Any chance this is some mottling in the paint color itself? That's not uncommon in lighter colored metallics.

Not comfortable with rotary buffer. What is mottling? When I took it to the shop I know they buffed it and most of the spots did disappear. I don't believe it's a metallic. It's just chevy victory red. I don't want to take it back to the body shop because someone parked by my truck and gave it a small ding. I could go throw a fit but I'm sick of dealing with them. The ding is very small (but ticked me off) and the spots are few and not to visible so I want to deal with it myself. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

On second thought, not sure if pics will be happening soon or not. The truck is a little bit dirty right now thus covering the spots (which are easily masked) and winter is setting in here in Montana. It just depends on if it's warm enough to wash it or not this weekend.
