Plastic ''trim'' on roof of car

Dear all I have problem - I don't know what to use to protect ''plastic trim'' on roof (I put some pics below).

And here is against what I want to protect (discoloration of plastic):



This defect is ''under'' plastic and you can't fill it with hand. When car is in shade is less visible.
During day car is parked near factory and I think it is from small particles which come from chimney (actually I'm 99% sure).
Now paint is protected with wax (NXT 2.0 / ULW) and I don't see problems with it (I hope) but this plastic is killing me .
Any advice on what to use to protect from ''collecting'' more of this will be nice.

On my Ford edge I was having a similar problem recently Have been making sure it was really clean and then I wax it (Synthetic) I know its sounds mental but it was a last resort I tried everything else I could think of and nothing worked - Im also waxing windows -same deal it really works and nothing did before.(UQW windshield - Ultimate Paste wax for everything else.

It looks like it's painted plastic. If it is you can keep using wax on it. Ultimate wax would be my choice. It's hard to tell but that spot could be clear coat failure. Do you have any better pics?

Yeah, something that is smooth and glossy you can wax.

Plastic Protection

You can clay bar it to make sure it is pure. Then use Meguiars Plastic-x to smoothen it out, and finally..... Meguiars NXT Spray Wax. It goes on really easy and provides a silky smooth shine. I use it on all types of plastic, as well as carbon fiber.

I think its spot fading from chimney material.

''Trim'' is smooth and its full black plastic - I'm 100% sure it's not painted - with paint on top of material.
I'm not sure if spray wax can be useful protection. I will try ULW/NXT 2.0.

Have you tried a clay bar on it? If that does not help you could move to ultimate compound if it is available to you.

I will try to clay it but my goal is protection. I didn't wanna clay if i don't know how to protect .

I completely missed this. Plastx would be another good option to try after using a clay bar. Then if plastx does not remove it then you can move up to ultimate compund. For protection you can use ultimate wax since that is the longest lasting wax that is offered in the meguiar's line up. Then you can maintain it in between washes with ultimate quick detailer or ultimate quick wax.

Looks like some sort of a stain.
I would also try some APC and then if that doesn't work, try claying it.
My guess is that it is clear coated in which case you can wax to protect.

I try with APC, after with claybar. Then I put thin layer of ULW - looks ok. Plastic in not clear coated.
Defect stay on surface...(I think this is discoloration of material)
I hope ULW will protect this surface from future fading (next time I will try NXT 2.0).
I was thinking maybe it will be good idea to put headlight protectant on this trim.

Be very careful if you decide to use UC. I applied UC by hand to my wife's 2011 Fusion door trim, using a Meg's gold foam pad. It left terrible swirl marks, both UP and a cleaner wax does nothing to improve the swirls. I keep it coated with ULW, but the swirls are still present. I would use Plast X, if I could do it all over again.

I treat that kind of plastic trim almost exactly like paint. I use a 3" pad and 105 followed by 205 and top with wax for protection. The DAMF system with 301 works just as well, it just depends what I already have out. Haven't found one yet that didn't respond really well. Out of curiosity, I experimented once on my wife's Odyssey trim with some Endurance tire gel. Rubbed it in and buffed it off. Made it look good, just too much dust attraction.

Thx, when I try correction I will try Plast X... today it was rain and trim and ULW on looks good.
