  • Repaint Out-gassing and waxing?

Alright, When I got repainted, they told me it was baked. So I waited a month for my paint to cure. Parked the repainted side ALWAYS towards the sun. After approaching the 30 day wait period that I read somewhere. I start seeing that some people suggest 60 days and now 90 days. So what scares me more is that I called the body shop and the manager said "You can wax your car anytime" and I asked him if I could have waxed my car the after a few days after the repaint and he said yes, he also mentioned something about not to let the wax sit on the car for a while (How is it gonna bond then?) and to wipe it off really quickly. In my case with UW, I'm supposed to do that, but this brings up further questions.

It's been 34 days, I'm eager to apply a coat of UW on. What should I do?
Yes, the paint has a 5 year warranty. But with their lack of attention to detail I'm NEVER gonna let them touch it again. (Overspray on windows, Overspray on other panels, They tried to give it to me with orange peel and lack of shine, Sanding marks all over the place. Correcting those sanding marks took a lot of time with UC)

After using UC, UP, and UW... I'm not happy with smooth as glass.

It mostly depends on the painting process. The normal waiting time is 1-2 months. I would think you should be safe after the 30 mark and most of the time you would be.

I'd say you're probably ok to go ahead and wax. If you had a whole side repainted, I'd do a small, inconspicuous spot and wait a day or two to see how it reacts just to be safe.

it should be fine to wax go with a carnauba base rather then a synthetic sealant.
And your experience with that body shop is what happens to every single person who has ever gone to bs, BS.
Never heard a good story about a body shop, ever.

Oh lord. I wanna open my own body shop then, I want to fix up cars RIGHT, even to a detailer's eyes. But alright, I'll go ahead and give her a coat tomorrow when I do some detailing since it's my day off.

I got the same answer from the body shop last time I repainted my car. Most of these body shop staffs are not chemists nor detailing enthusiasts like us. They know how to repair cars and they know how to repaint cars and make them look great. Few of them know about the de-gassing process.

The wax will seal the surface and stops the dilutant to come out. This then may cause all sort of problems like rust and bubbles over the years.

My last paint job was done by MB body shop and they did a great job. For the first 60 days, I washed the car often and polished it every 2-3 weeks. It was a painful 60 days and I originally wanted to wait 90 days. It was a hot summer so this was my excuse to wax my car after only 60 days.
