  • Garden Sprayer as Foam Gun

Hey, I was just wondering. Is it possible to use one of those garden sprayers that are used to spread pesticides and fertilisers through a hose as an effective foam gun? I can honestly say that I do not really know how a foam gun works to produce the rich foam, but these two devices do look very similar so I just came up with the idea. Has anyone tried this before? If you have, what were your results?

yes this will work. However it has a set mixing ratio. So you cannot be assured MAX suds. And many foam guns allow the ratio to be changed.

My recommendation is use the auto shampoo straight first, do not dilute it... this should help with maximixing suds.

ALso when foaming, dont jsut depress the trigger. Treat it like a spray can. Make quick short passes.. you will conserve foam...

Also if you arc it so youre not spraying it straight on it will atomize a little more and stick better to the vehicle on all planes.

    good luck..

let us know what you find and which type you use

I would personally just buy a real foam gun and be done with it (if your budget allows). It will last you a long time and it's one tool that's worth every penny IMO. I've had mine for many years and don't regret buying it one bit. I also have a foam cannon and don't use it very often as much as the foam gun.

There was a gent over on AGO that used a 'hose end' garden sprayer. From the pictures that he posted, the thing worked! In fact, worked really well.

Hey, thanks for your replies guys! It is greatly appreciated! I would really like to get a proper foam gun but for me it is not really possible because I live in Canada and it is very inconvenient for me to get one as it is not sold in stores here and the shipping to Canada is killer!

BillE, could you please link me to that page? I am really interested in seeing it in action! Thanks!

Btw...I too was raped with huge shipping and brokerage costs on items I ordered from the US, but many yrs ago I was advised about parcel receiving places across the border, the savings were huge, in some cases I saved hundreds of $$$.
I live in Vancouver, and use a parcel receiving service in Point Roberts Washington...(40 min drive)
How close do you live to the US border/ closest US town?? it could be worth it.

Ah yes, you had told me about those boarder services on one of my previous threads I started that asked about that exact thing and I actually used it! It was amazing but the only problem is that I just picked up my previous order and did not think to order a foam gun at the time but since I just went to the US, I am not really planning on going back for a while since my schedule is really starting to stack up now. I live close to Toronto and it still takes a few hours to drive down to the boarder.

I have something similar that I picked up at my local harbor freight. It works ok, at least for my needs when I wash my cars. I have seen these at walmart as well.

Well...I looked, looked and looked some more, couldn't find the thread.

What he did (in essence) was using the hose end 'garden bug sprayer' and then used the foaming soap instead of the 'bug spray.'

I can' t remember what brand nor dilution rates, but the idea was well received. Probably a lot of trial and errors.

Sorry I couldn't help ya out further.

Hey! No problem BillE! Thanks for your reply and efforts though! *I cannot enter to a new line for some reason.* As an update to this thread, I actually decided to pick up this Chameleon garden sprayer at my local Home Depot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XpGzm0oDFM What actually appealed to me with this sprayer was that it had the capability to connect to other bottles other than the one that came with it. Also, it has a bunch of dilution ratios I can select up to 8oz (per 32oz I think since that is the size of the bottle it came with). Now, I still have not had a chance to try this product out to see how it works and I would need to figure out the proper dilution of the wash solution I should put in the bottle for the best results. Christopher.Brown, I am just not too sure if the system would be able to **** up the wash concentrate straight, since it is so thick. I will have lots of testing to do! Once I have the dilution ratio figured out, I would try to mix a proper foaming solution in a gallon bottle as my dedicated foam solution so I do not have to mix it every time I wash my car. Stick by for future updates!

Actually, as a correction I was looking at a few videos of this product on YouTube and the manufacturer replied to people saying that the dilution rate of the dial is for one gallon, not 32oz. I think that should still be sufficient for creating suds as I am still capable of making it 1oz of soap to 1gal of water as it suggests on the soap instructions. What dilution ratios do you guys use in the bottle of your foam guns to produce the most foam?

I couldnt go back to a garden hose type tool after using my foam canon.

                              I love it:
