Hey guys,
I recently bought an 03 acura with nighthawk black pearl paint. Mechanically, the car is awesome, but cosmetically eh.
There's a ton of swirl marks all over the car. There is also one spot where the paint is not shiny and almost matte in finish. No bubbling or anything, I'm really hoping that isn't clear coat failure.
I've done a lot of reading, and have a bit of an idea of how to approach this. Any suggestions?
Additionally, I saw this guide which says that
Nbp paint is very delicate. Is my approach too aggressive?http://www.detailedimage.com/Ask-a-P...-pearl-part-1/
Finally, this is all being done by hand. Also important to note that I'm an absolute noob to detailing, I've :gasp: usually just taken my cars through automatic washes in the past.
My original plan :
1st: wash with gold class wash
2nd: clay with meguiars clay bar kit
3rd: polish with meguiars swirlx
4th: wax with collinite 845
And for the interior, griots leather care.
However, the other day I saw the meguiars brilliant solutions paint restoration kit, which basically comes with everything I had originally planned to buy, subbing the swirlx and collinite with ultimate compound and meguiars wax. It was on sale for 20 bucks, compared to the 60ish bucks i was originally planning to spend. Also picked up zymol leather cleaner and leather conditioner on sale.
Is the kit a good approach? Will ultimate compound be too aggressive? Is there enough quantity for 1 or 2 washes /details? I would definitely like to spend 20 bucks vs 60 if possible. Also, I'll be honest, I don't really have the time to do regular detailings , this will probably be a one time thing and I'll take it through touchless washes afterwards.
Also, any supplies I need to buy that aren't in the kit? It comes with microfiber cloths and pads and seems like it should be enough to do everything I want.
Thanks guys!
