  • Help! Need a powerful vacuum that will help w pet allergens! (HEPA?)

    Hi all

So I have a dog and two cats (one mine, one sister's) in my house and I have decided I want to take cleanliness up a notch and do a better job of removing ALL of the hair and dander from the pets so that friends with allergies don't have reactions in my house.

I only have 2 small-ish rooms with carpet, rest of the house is wood. So, that said, I was thinking I could probably get away with a mobile detailer-style vacuum for the house rather than a traditional house vacuum. This would be my preferred approach as then I could get some good use out of it out on details, instead of just at home.

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions for a very powerful, portable vacuum that either has a HEPA filter or something like it?

    Thanks!

I use the metropolitan vac n blow compact vac for details and it works great and ***** up pet hair fairly well. You can find it on amazon for roughly $165. Comes with plenty of attachments.

That was the first one that caught my eye... I would love to hear from someone who has used it specifically to deal with allergies, though, and hear their thoughts. I don't doubt it is a good vacuum, I just wonder how effectively it gets the allergens and such.

If you are going to want to get dander that`s embedded in carpets and not re-spread it around you`ll need a closed system. Shop vacs have a blow out built into the system. The only thing I can think of is a regular vacuum that has the hepa filters and others built in, in these the exhaust is filtered and vented through the filters. Maybe some of the shop vacs have them, I haven`t seen them.
