  • M07 Show Car Glaze

I feel a bit defeated with my black daily driver with incredibly soft paint. You breath it on wrong and it will scratch.
Love touches here and there which really does not affect the shine of the car as these love marks are random and only a handful, however, it is still bothersome.
Instead of doing more corrections, I've made a decision to hide them and ordered M07 Show Car Glaze.

Now my car has been clayed and waxed with Ultimate Wax and topped with Gold Class Plus about 3 weeks ago?
I am assuming that M07 should not go on top of wax and the car certainly does not need to be clayed again since it is garage kept.

What do you recommend to strip the wax? Which is more effective at removing UW and GC? 10% IPA or Mineral Spirit?
Please keep in mind that I am only limited to rinseless wash and will be using D114 Rinse Free Express Wash.
First time with D114 as I have been a ONR user and I am excited to see how D114 will stack up to ONR. Decided on D114 since it will leave nothing behind unlike ONR.
I am also wondering if a strong dilution of D114 will strip wax? If so, at what dilution will D114 strip wax?

    Plan of action:

    1. Wash - perhaps strong dilution of D114 and skip on IPA or MS wipe down?
    2. IPA or MS wipe down depending on recommendation
    3. Show Car Glaze - apply and wipe off when still wet?
Is there a waiting period or cure time before I apply wax?
    DA application or hand application?
    4. Wax with Ultimate Wax

Before you go through all that effort, try a test spot just using M07 over your existing waxes. It's a common practice in show car circles for a short-term finish enhancement. M07 has been on the market long before polymers, silicones and the like. With the possible exception of some of the hi-tech coatings, I don't believe any hand-applied finish is truly impenetrable. If it works, you can just top it with one of your favorite waxes and you're done. If it doesn't work, you're not out a lot of time and effort.

I would want the glaze to last as long as the wax so I was looking to lock-in the glaze with the wax.
In addition, curious as to the fill-in capability of M07 on top of wax?

Nonetheless.. would like to start on clean paint to gain as much benefit of the glaze as possible.

First, MO7 is removed while wet. Massage into paint, remove while wet. But don't remove in 1 go. Remove the initial coating lightly, then remove the remaining MO7 until all of it is gone. Have a couple of microfiber towels. Since it doesn't dry, it will build up in the microfiber towes and cause smearing. Other options for removing any remaining or old wax is to clay it or just this time, dawn or some similar product. Then M07, M07 works real well on dark colors and black paint. It hides minor swirls well, but must be in combination with a wax like ultinate or NXT 2.0.

          Good info... thank you.
It would have been great if a stronger dilution of D114 would strip the wax.
My fear with Dawn is that it may dry out the rubber and plastic trims. Ever since I got into detailing, I just can't get myself to use household products on my car like window cleaners and APC. I know... silly in many ways.
Will do a 10% IPA wipe down to remove the wax since Mr. Stoops recommend IPA should be good for inspections after polishing. I am only assuming it should be good to remove wax as well.

Would appreciate if there are any further tips and techniques regarding M07 application from all you good folks here at MOL.

            Re: M07 Show Car Glaze

I've been using M07, as I mentioned before, for over 40 years and it's been a love/hate thing until I applied some of the processes I learned from this forum. I use an mf cloth as an applicator, folded to a 4X8 inch pad. I'll squeeze a ribbon of product lengthwise on the pad, pinch the edges with my thumb and little finger and rub it in with a fair amount of palm pressure. M07 is very "grabby" on the surface, so keep a good grip on your pad. Keep your application super, super thin, as too much M07 is a bear to remove. It doesn't dry in a conventional sense, it "skins over", kinda like homemade pudding. After you finish a panel, start wiping it clean. The process of breaking the skin will re-liquefy the product, so as ffboy posted, don't attempt to remove it all at once. Make a couple passes, wiping off a bit each time, until it's all off. It probably took me longer to type this than to do a panel, so don't be afraid to try it. Just remember to keep your apps thin and with some pressure on the pad.
BTW, I sure wouldn't be afraid of a one-time use of dish soap to strip wax. You and I both likely have neighbors who wash their cars with dish soap every time. While their cars aren't nearly as nice as ours, their plastic and rubber surfaces haven't crumbled away just 'cause they used Dawn.

^ Thank you for the heads up
I will most likely use a DA to massage it in. I am going to have to experiment as to what speed setting to use. M07 is on its way to my door steps and I am expecting this Friday. Just in time so that I can "goof off" with it (as my wife would say) during the weekend.

Eversince getting into detailing, I just cant seem to keep my hands off my car (hence the love touch marks) so I do need some method to strip wax more than once.

                Re: M07 Show Car Glaze

I've never used a D/A for M07, since I've been a rotary guy up until last year. I have a Meguiar's pad/speed chart posted on the wall of my garage, but never looked at the M07 line. I'd think speed 1 would be appropriate, but I'd have to try it sometime. Post up how it works for you. I've been doing all my M07 work by hand, primarily on single-stage paints like my El Camino. For maintenance on newer paints, I usually use D151, M02, M09 or DG 501, depending on need for correction and/or my mood at the time.

I knew I had this somewhere, but couldn't find it earlier. Here's a post on the Autotopia forum worth reading from 10 years ago by Mike Phillips, who was a Meguiars product trainer at the time:
I got this job from when I did a BMW 335i 2 weeks ago. This 350Z is his uncle's and at first when he heard his nephew paying $280 for a carwash, he went crazy. Haha, but then he saw the results and he wanted his done the same way but without swirl removal. He was VERY HAPPY with the results. He...

I saved it on my favorites so that I can read this thing a few times so that I can digest it.
                    Again... thank you!
