Tips or tricks for cleaning tail pipes/tips?

Carbon build up and whatever else always destroys tips. Here is an example.

I used a wire brush with metal polish on it to knock off the extra build up on the end of the tips. Huge difference. I haven't done my tips on the car for probably 5 years, lol. Anyone have better tips for this process. Even for the inside of the pipe?

I didn't spend a whole lot of time, but looking at the car from the back, it's amazing how the tips stand out and makes it look so much nicer.

#0000 Steel wool and a metal polish. Probably the new strongest metal polish would be even best. Then following up with something milder if wanted.
