  • Smoke odor removal?

I've got a lady that just stopped by that bought a new car and it wreaks of smoke inside. She can't stand it and her son has allergies, especially to smoke. I smelled inside the car and it does. That stuff gets my allergies going to.

What's the best method to remove the odor and do the best I can to help her out. She wants it done like yesterday, so I scheduled her for tomorrow night.

I don't have an ozone machine etc.. I have a little bissell pro heat shampooer, meguiar's odor eliminator. What other things should I or can I do?

    Thank you!

      Re: Smoke odor removal?

Thanks for the link, but as mentioned in my post, I have this already. Smoke gets into porous surfaces and many other areas that just a bottle of odor eliminator, in my opinion can't fully remove. Headliners, carpets, seats, inside vents and who knows what else.

Definitely need ideas of how to clean the vents. I think it was a buick or oldsmobile, so I'll have to see if it has an in cabin air filter. That way I can recommend she go pick a new one up and replace it.

I think between both the OE and shampooing all the carpeted surfaces and using my steam cleaner will be pretty beneficial (steam cleaner just came to mind) That will be good as well, as steam sanitizes surfaces.

I just want to know if there are other tricks or tips or do I have them covered and should do fairly well removing the odor and embedded stench!!?!?

The odors from the vents can be sprayed with an odor eliminater. I used to spray stuff into mine before. But mine never had smoke smell coming out of them. I just did it so when I turned on the vents it would push the smell from the spray that I used.

You can also check the cabin filter (if she has one)

^^^This. And I don't recall the brand but I did a review of an easy to use product that eliminated the smoke smell from my car. And wet dog smell from wife's car. Something like $15 a can. Worked so far. Cabin filter a must prior to this.

I've had success with Arm&Hammer refrigerator odor eliminators. They draw out the odors and eliminate them. What I like about these is that they don't try to cover up odors but actually absorb them leaving no scent. I would also sprinkle some on the carpeting, brush it in and vacuum it up.

They also make them in this format that you could stick in an inconspicuous spot under the dash.

I come across these cars all the time.the only true way ofremovingg odors is to clean all the surfaces and use a carpet extractor.then use M2odoror remover. Also they have AC cleaners you squirt into the AC vents. If that doesn't work tyouyoiu have to use an OzGeneratoratro. You shobe ableable to rent one from ylocalojanitorialrial supply house. and charge here double the rental fee.

Another question, can the Meg's OE be directly sprayed into the air duct system? Each vent including the lower intake for the air, run is on max with the recirculating button on, then use the fresh air only button and spray the system through the vents from the outside? I knwo they have Clean Air Duct freshener, but I don't know of anyone having anything in town like that.

Yes it can. I usually turn the air conditioner on recirculate spray a lot of product in the cabin and let it run.

Yeah I just watched a video from autgeek. So I'm good to go there for sure. I'll be steam cleaning all interior surfaces as well as shampooing.

Silly that the dealer wouldn't remove this for her. Looks like they need my services to clean their cars before selling them. lol

And Mario, you must turn on your spell check with your android, lol

Lol. That first post was from my laptop. And that was iespell checkers fault. The other posts were from my android and they were corrected fine.

Cool, you have a steamer. You should remove 99 percent of the odor just by that. Odors stick to surfaces and get in to cloth. So cleaning will remove a lot of the odors.

thank you all for the information. I think with the steamer, the spray in the vents, and the shamppoing will do wonders for her, as well as getting her a new cabin air filter. I just need to see what year make and model it is and see if she even has one. I think it's a late 90's or maybe early 2000's so it should have one. Especially being I think either a Buick or Oldsmobile, they tend to have those.

                            Re: Smoke odor removal?

Well car is done.4-1/2 ish hours.

                            Vacuumed Carpets, seats, trunk, headliner

Steam cleaner all cracks, crevices, trim and dash surfaces, carpets, headliners, handles, seatbelts, seat tracks underside of seats. Basically everything I could possibly steam clean with my attachments, lol

Then comes the Shampooing, same as above, except, headliner, carpets, seats, carpets, trunk.

Sprayed Oxy Clean with scotchguard protectant on carpets and such....

Of course the other interior cleaning things you do, jambs, dressing blah blah, lol

Sprayed odor eliminator into vents with AC on and recirculation on. Then used vent mode to **** air in from the outside vents on the wiper cowel while spraying OE into the outside intake. Sprayed OE over seats, liner, etc...

Informed the lady first thing when she brought the car, that I wanted to see if it had the cabin filter. Checked and of course it did. Asked her to please go pick up a new one. The one I took out was DIRTY. Like nasty dirty. Explained it'll help with any lingering odors to remove them and keep the air cleaner by removing the pollens etc.. with the recirculation on and not the vent. Told her it'd help her son too since he's got allergies with the pollen removal. Mine in my car makes a huge difference when it gets pollen crazy outside, I close up and pop on the re-circ.

In garage fully opened drying out with fans on the interior now.

Going to recheck for odor of cig or no odor in the morning. I certainly don't smell any cig smoke odor now. Smells so fresh!! She's going to love it.

Now back to why the heck would a dealer sell cars like this not even cleaned up. what's wrong with these people, hurry up and take your money and push you out the door. They can't even check filters and replace them. I certainly didn't have to do that for her, or even tell her about it. When she brought me the new filter I put it in and she thanked me for telling her about it. Said she would've never known.

Anywho I'm spent and have no idea what I just typed above or if it's spelled right. Sorry off to bed! lol
