  • Detailed my WRX today 8hrs some Qs on claying

Hi, so I did a full detail on my brand new new subaru WRX today by hand and man does it look schmick. I just have a question on the clay process not quite sure i did it fully correct.

When I clayed i ended up using pretty much a full bottle of detail lube plus some, didnt end up with any marring or anything which is what i was really worried about, but when i went back over the car with a bag there were still quite a few bumps, is this normal or should it be completely smooth? However it was still pretty damn smooth compared to how it was when it started but i didnt want to go back over the entire car again after 3 hours, i was applying a fair amount of pressure and going up down and side to side with multiple passes.

    Thanks
    Dan

There could be some contaminants that weren't sufficiently removed, maybe when you get another megs quik detailer (may I suggest Last Touch, get it, you'll see why many here love that), go at it especially if you haven't waxed it. Or if you have a paint cleaner, using it can remove any further "bumps" that weren't sufficiently removed.

You didn't mention using a paint cleaner after claying. Paint cleaning is recommended after claying.

Suggest you just use your wash water as lubrication for clay bar. I do it all the time. After claying using this method, I do a quick rinse of the car with the hose again to wash off any residue.

You seemed to have used a lot of lube for claying.

I'm thinking you may have over-lubricated the surface, causing the clay bar to not pick up as much as it should. No big deal, just try using less next time.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I totally agree with Davey, I once tried to clay a car before drying after washing and the combination of the water and the clay lube kept the clay a little too far off the paint and I had to go over it again after drying completely to get the remaining contaminents off using just the spray lube. It sounds like you used too much lube and did the same thing.

No harm though, just get it next time you clay.
