  • ScratchX 2.0 - Where do I start?

I just bought a new car in black color and after washing it with meguiars gold class the swirl marks and thin hairline scratches came out! Please advise if below method is acceptable

    1. Wash the car
    2. Claybar
    3. Use scratchx 2.0 with the foam applicator
    4. Use Polish (which one?)
    5. Wax (I bought the Meguiar's Gold Class Liquid Wax)

    Any additional tips?

    Thank you

Re: ScratchX 2.0 - Where do I start?

For isolated scratches and swirls, scratchX 2.0 can be used, but try it in a small inconspicuous area to see if the paint is on the soft side. If it is, you may need to follow it up with a milder cleaner (something like swirlX). If all tutns out well, you may skip swirlX and move to a cleaner polish (ultimate polish is slightly milder than swirlX but has more polishing oils) ot a pure polish (deep crystal or #7 showcar glaze), then finish up with Gold Class Wax.

Another consideration (a big one) is proper car wash practice. Use a good quality wash mitt and 2 buckets to prevent scratching. It's so easy to instill those scratches by not removing or rinsing off the dirt that might be reapplied or be put back into the paint, being a black car (yes, you are blessed in this respect), use good quality microfiber drying towels and try using the flood rinse technique after initial rinsing of your car. Minimizes spotting, which minimizes the need to wipe the car repeatedlty just to dry it...

Maintain with a Quik Detailer (Ultimate or Gold Class) and Spray wax (Ultimate quik wax or gold class) to keep it looking good.

Re: ScratchX 2.0 - Where do I start?

I'm not a fan of paint corrections by hand.
So many people give up before the paint is corrected because it's so hard.
So with that being said. You can use Scratch X and get great results but your going to have to work for it.
Getting a DAp is the best investment you can make if you ever want your paint to look good with little work
Your system is fine and you can stop after SX if you do it right, and then just wax.

Thanks for the input guys. much appreciated. Since I do not have a place with a shade to clean my car I will wake up early tomorrow to do it.

Don't forget the fireman nozzle. Great for sheeting the water off. Wouldn't pay more then $10 for it.

And pick up a good waffle weave drying towel.

In the end you will purchase a dual action polisher.

              What I would use:

              1) wash
              2) clay (Meguiars clay kit)
              3) remove light swirls & polish (ultimate polish)
              4) wax (ultimate liquid wax)

Let us know how it goes.

Re: ScratchX 2.0 - Where do I start?

Sorry for the late update but it was a success! Scratch X 2.0 is indeed effective provided you use the proper technique! Unfortunately after a few days someone has scratched my car! I guess my 3 week old brand new car has been finally tagged. That person gave my car a thin deep hairline scratch. I tried to use scratch X more than once and do with more passion but I managed to only reduce it but never really got rid of it. Any suggestions?
