  • Ultimate Compound?

Generally speaking, will UC finish better than M101, M100, M105, and D300? Might seem like a dumb question, but sometimes, less aggressive products don't always finish the same.

Not necessarily a dumb question, but one with many answers and perhaps more questions. Perhaps if you give us a bit more information of what you are working on, its condition, tools at your disposal and end result you are seeking. Yes, generally Ultimate Compound will have less or no hazing compared to the other products in your list. Depending on the other conditions I've mentioned.

While UC is not as aggressive as M105, it is derived from it so it uses the same abrasive set but with more lubrication. It won't dry out like M105 will, nor will create the dust that M105 will under similar conditions. We find it quite rare that UC leaves any significant haze unless you're dealing with pretty delicate paint - but those paints will always require a finish polish step to really maximize the finish. Of course, pad choice will play a huge role here as well.

Now, even though we do not necessarily recommend UC for rotary use, we've seen a lot of people use it on that tool, and with excellent results.

            Thanks, Michael.

When using the same foam pad, is UC less aggressive than D300?

That's a tough one. As you know, D300 was designed specifically for the DAMF System so it was never officially tested on foam. That doesn't mean you can't use it on foam, and it actually works quite well on a yellow foam polishing pad when working on fairly delicate paint. Strictly speaking from personal experience, I think cut is pretty similar between them when used with foam, but as always the paint is going to be the big decider here.

If you've never used UC before, you really should try it. It's great stuff, and it's our go-to product for our Saturday Classes. Look through the images from those classes and you'll see dramatic improvements, done under very quick demo circumstances, on a huge variety of paints and paint defects. Very long buffing cycle, almost no dust, and great results. So many people want to dis it because it's a "consumer product" but I've put it head to head, on the same car, against some much pricier "boutique" products and it blows them into the weeds. Equally fast correction with less haze, more clarity and gloss. It's seriously good stuff.

                PERFECT answer as usual, Mike.

I think you nailed it by saying people might dis it because it's a "consumer" product. Not me, I'm going to buy some today. Seems like it might work great for 1-steps on a polishing pad, or even a light cutting pad.

Over 101? Over M100 on, say, a Rupes with a 6" microfiber finish disc? M105 is truly amazing stuff, but NOTHING is a panacea that will work perfectly in all situations. Heck, I've worked on cars where M105 was totally unusable, or was outperformed by M101.

Gotta say, though, we love that enthusiasm for one of our products!!!!!

With a 5.5" lc white pad I found d300 to cut less that UC on a blue trailblazer. I one stepped it with UC and it came out well.

Yes I've run into a few that M105 didn't work but I must say. In 98% of the daily drivers I detail M105 can handle anything from paint transfer marks, scratches of all kinds, headlight restoration, glass cleaning, chrome cleaning and the like. M105 works great as an all in one compound for laymen and pros alike.

And yes I love Meg's product, company and support they give me.
