  • Soft Buff Pads - Lay down or hang up?

I'm going to change up some shelf placement for my items and wondered after using the DA and cleaning the pads, putting them in ziplock type bags and keeping them open to dry, would it be ok to hang them up or should I leave them lay flat? I'm using the same bag they came it, when has a hole for hanging. I figured I could label the wall above the hanger for what pad/polish or wax I'm using it with, as well as have the bag labeled and the back of the pad where the Velcro is. I thin it'd look nice having them hanging up, leaving shelf space for more product, lol.

Just wasn't sure if by hanging them, I'd end up with product moving down and piling up on the edges.

I would dry them in the dryer on low setting. I have done this to my Soft Buff pads for the last two plus years with no issues. I would not put them in the bag if they are damp at all, even if the plastic bag is open. You will get mildew in no time. I leave mine flat, in the bag after drying. I keep mine in a giant tupper wear type container.

Well according to other posts, Meguiar's mentions putting them in a bag to dry with the bag open (I don't wash them, just bought them recently and used them a couple times) So they are not soaked by water, just have the wax and or polish left in them. I've done the recommended terry cloth blot technigue and that. Again this is just for after removing excess product from the pad, then putting them in the ziplock type bags with it left open. (NOT washing then putting in bag) Thanks

I've decide I'm just going to hang them up on nails or pegs.

Here in our Training Garage we fully wash and dry out Soft Buff 2.0 pads, then place them into large plastic containers that sit inside our cabinets. We find no difference between stacking them flat in these containers or standing on end. I do the same thing at home, except mine are actually stacked vertically in a drawer of an old heavy duty plastic filing cabinet drawer.

Sealing a damp pad in a plastic bag will promote mildew growth pretty quickly. Our recommendation for storing dry pads in the plastic bag is more for dust avoidance than anything else. Over the years we just seen so many people treat pads like cheap shop rags and then wonder why they can't get decent results. Suggesting that the pads be stored back in their own, individual plastic bags is actually a bit overkill, but it gets the point across that you can't just leave them laying around any old place.

Thanks for the input. I'm thinking even though overkill, if I can get in a routine to keep them to last as long as possible, I will certainly do what I can do keep em clean. Plus I have an end panel on my shelving that would be perfect to hand a long nail or screw to slide the bags over, then I can keep each pad (and product they're used for) together and out of the way. Then I can put more of your cleaning products on the shelves. :-)
