  • Removing Scuff Mark Advice

    Hi Everyone,

It was inevitable that a car sideswiped me during traffic and took off. Fortunately there was no major damage to the my white bumper due to the low speeds. But I'm left with the black scuff marks on my white car bumper and I was able to remove 80% of it with just a tar and sap remover with regular cloth. Now the residual area is grayish. After removing most of the black scuff mark, there's a yellowish streak which wasn't noticeable before since it was all black prior to cleaning.

My question is what products should I use to finish off the remaining marks? Just for reference, my scuff marks are similar to the ones in this picture. I've manage to get the black out and now it's just grayish with a slight yellow mark at the outer edge I'm trying to get out.

Any advice and tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Are the black marks paint transfer from black paint on the other car, or are they from black pastic/rubber on the other car?

Are you working by hand or machine?

I would probably try claying first, followed by a paint cleaner such as UC (Ultimate Compound), then your favourite wax.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

      Hi davey,

I'm thinking it is not paint transfer and more like bumper, because the car that hit me during traffic was red in color but left scuff marks similar to the one above in black.

      Working by hand.

      Thanks

those look like a mud tire marks from a big truck tire.
        Are you sure it's paint?
Tarminator is my recommendation for rubber marks.
If it's paint, or the TM won't get it all off, try a compound. M105 is my choice.

Ok, well you probably did the right thing using the tar remover.

You might want to try a stronger solvent like Prepsol. If not, try the above (clay & UC).

Hi, here's the werid thing. The car that bumped into me and took off was a red toyota camry, so I was expecting a red color paint residue but after getting out and checking. I got black marks like the ones above; I'll grab an exact picture, the one posted was a reference photo I found online.

              Thanks for your help

Thanks for the tip you guys. I'll update the post with an exact picture as the above was for reference, since those marks look exactly like mine. But as mentioned, the person who bumped into me was in a red camry on my white car leaving those black scuff marks. I'm still trying to figure that one out.

It was probably from his bumper, or maybe even tire..

I had something very similar to this on my Impreza's rear bumper, I just used my DA with UC on a yellow polish pad and 5 mins later it was near new.
It looks like tire scuff marks to me....
