  • Prepping for bit of repainting

Due to an "incident" with a deer, I have to have some body repair done on my 2012 Ram. The only repainting that needs to be done is the hood. Got lucky I guess, but there was still $5500 damage to the truck. Before taking the truck to the shop, I went over its hood with Prep Sol Cleaning Solvent to remove the wax that I had used. The truck has been waxed three times with Meguiar's Ultimate Wax. Should one thorough treatment of Prep Sol "git-r-done" as far as wax removal?

I've have chosen a "high-end" shop so I'm "pretty sure" that they will be darn careful about their paint prep, but I just wanted to be "extra sure".

As an aside, the shop is using the latest Spies Hecker paint and equipment. The techs have all had extensive training their use. The shop owner gave the "grand tour" of his shop. I was more than just a little impressed.

Yeah you should be fine as far as wax removal you could also do a dishsoap wash to strip the wax if you wanted to make sure. I wouldnt worry about it, shops will hit it with wax and grease remover before doing any paint work
Even the best cars look like junk when they are not clean

The body shop you're dealing with has seen plenty of vehicles with plenty of wax or sealant on them. Your wipe down with Prep Sol will just make their jobs that much easier, which is very nice of you (although with slightly less altruistic intentions, but hey, that's fine!). Dealing with anything you might have missed should just be SOP for them and you shouldn't worry about it at all.
