  • How in the world do I clean these tips up?

Just received these either chrome or polished (not sure) tips. How do I clean the black off these? I've tried simple green and scrubbing with a sos pad and coke. Nothing helped.

To clarify, I'm referring to the lip, not the inside.

Well, if its chrome and the finish is gone, then its gone...

Those look a bit closer to chrome than my tips, so maybe they are.

But you could still try a metal polish and some terry cloth. Perhaps even metal polish on a dremel tool with the cloth pad.

I used some metal polish on it and it helped alot. Didnt totally clean up the roughest spots but overall it looks much better.

        Acid. HF, Hydrofluoric Acid.
        HF will eat threw anything.
        You can use Hot Rims.
It is a very mild Acid and is avalible at your local AP store.
I myself would use Wheel Brighner, but that comes in a gal. and is only avalible at Pro shops

I use the Meguiar"s Chrome cleaner. This is very acidic. Do not let dry anywhere. I spary the product on a towel and then wipe. I then use a 4x1 mix of water and vinegar to neutralize the acid. I do not suggest you use this inside the car. It works great on chrome tips , bumpers and wheels. Real chrome, not plastic. I do not polish the tips afterwards. My tips get hot and tend to discolor after time with polish. IMHO
