  • Recommendations for product to apply to dashboard and plastic inside

Having kept the interiors of my two cars vacuumed and clean for the past month, the next phase of car care for me is keeping the dashboard and plastic in good shape. I've always used a regular lysol wipe to keep dust off.

I'm not sure if this is good or not. Sorry to say I haven't done it enough to cause much damage if it isn't good. Is there a product that is recommended to use on the dashboard and other plastic materials in the interior? I'd like to not only keep off dust, but to preserve the color and prolong the life of the dashboard as well (I've ridden in older cars with cracked dashboards before--it looks like junk and I don't want that if I can avoid it).

Ideally I'd like to use only ONE product for everything interior, be it a wipe or some type of spray/foam.

I don't necessarily need anything to remove junk that has dried onto the cup holders--I can just use these lysol wipes and elbow grease. What I'm looking for is something that will keep a clean surface intact and looking good.

    What do you folks recommend?

Quick Interior Detailer is great for dusting, and has some UV resistance.

Going to more of a dressing (like Natural Shine, Supreme Shine, Ult. Protectant) would add more protection.

I use Ultimate Protectant to all the vinyl and plastic parts. Make sure you clean the surface first. I just use a household cleaner like Mr. Clean to wipe down the surface before.

The Meguiar's store has a bottle of that stuff for 10 bucks or so. If I can't get it at Target (that does have a lot of Meguiar's products) I'll get it from the online store here.

I can do that.... the reason being, to clean off all the crud and dust, so that the product itself can penetrate the plastic?

Yeah, same as waxing and wanting a clean surface to work on. The protectant can wipe up some loose dust itself... but anything heavy you could wipe off first.

You can also check autogeek.net or autodetailingsolutions.com for prices, etc.

Sounds good. OK looks like I got my shopping list: a 5-ga bucket, a grit guard, and a bottle of Meguiar's ultimate protectant.

I better stop posting in this place before I end up spending all the money I don't have.

I think a bucket from Home Depot would be cheapest....

That is always the problem here...

I called them this morning and their bucket is just under 3 bucks.

UP bought my windshield cowl back to life.

I did not know better and I applied UP to the cowl after a regular car wash. It rained after a few days bit I noticed it streaked a lot. I then used Mr.Clean to clean the cowl thoroughly and then applied UP. This time it worked. I used the same method to the interior and it turned out great.

I only did the thorough clean-up once. For the rest of the time, I just applied UP.

I've been very happy with either 303 aerospace and now that I have a bulk jug of M40 I'm even happier! The nice thing about M40 is it offers some cleaning as well as conditioning and protection. Can't say I've used it on much besides vinyl and plastic or for very long, though.

I used both UP and Gold Class Rich Leather Cleaner/Conditioner for my interior. I use the same yellow pad for both products, one side for UP and the other side for leather.
My car is 8 yrs old and thanks for Meguiars products, it looks new both exterior and interior.
