  • Product Question: Looking for a polish with no sealant

I just recently got a very expensive paint job. The painter told me not to use a sealant for several months to let the paint "Breathe". Well, I have to do something about water marks and general care of the paint. He recommended 3M Imperial. I just can't see spending $35.00 for the product.

My question: Is there a Meguiar's product that equals or betters the 3M Imperial?

    Thanx in advance!

Ultimate polish. UP has a mild cut on a scale of 1 being the least and 12 being the most aggressive, UP is a 4. Has good amount of oils in it. If you wish for pure polish and only polish try M07 I would not seal or wax for at least 90 days.

At least your painter knows what he is talking about. My painter (Mercedes) said that I could wax after 3 days.

The paint job was excellent but it was a painful 3 months for me, no waxing and all. For 3 months, I washed often and used DC-Polish twice.

#80 is also a good option for fresh paint...

So, when say M07 it would be Show Car Glaze 7...correct? And this would be ok on a fresh paint job?

BTW: the paint is 3 weeks old and I do not plan to use a sealant or wax until Spring.

Yes, M07 is Show Car Glaze. Absolutely OK on fresh paint, take note though it offers no protection, so you have to apply it frequently. For light dust removal, you can use Meguiar's Quik detailer (the maroon one), or if you want to really save a huge chunk, Last Touch Instant detailer. Works real well, leaves a very slick finish. UQD has some protective properties that may not be suitable for fresh paint.

#7 also wouldnt have much cleaning ability, as far as any swirls, etc.

I'd go #80 in this case, if you going to wait a while. It will have the most safe protection.

I just happened to have a bottle of #7 and tried it lightly on the hood and front fenders. AMAZING! I'll defiantly move to the #80.

Soon, I'll link a pic of the results.

Ok, M80 came in the mail today. Couldn't find it locally.

I can't wait to try it out. I'll get back with the results!

Wow, I am very surprised by the amount of information that differs on the net, but since I trust Meguiars, and have all their products, this topic has helped.

I have a 03 crown Vic that recently got painted two weeks ago in a garage, with a dual stage. It looks decent, obviously I hate to see it dirty, collecting dust, etc...being that it sits outside while waiting for my 3 months to be up for a polish..... and it still has compound residue everywhere from where he smoothed it out.

The guy who did mine, my best friend, was deployed right after I got home... so he cannot finish the polishing, or tell me, and what not.

MY question as a newbie to the forum:

                      1) Is this M80 OK to use for this fresh paint? Even though its not been polished or that I have not waited the 30 days to degas?
                      2) There seems to be swirls a bit already in the finish and compound that I have tried to hand wash out, but could anyone recommend if I could use a wash from you guys, that would not damage the paint while degassing?

Yes, you can use M80 on fresh paint. It's designed to be part of the refinish process and is often used within hours after applying paint (depending on the coating, the drying/curing process, etc...).

You can use any of Meg's wash soaps that don't have a wax component. So,

Re: Product Question: Looking for a polish with no sealant

                          Yes, #80 is safe.

Washing is safe (not a wash and wax type product), but that wont remove any swirls. If it is just mild swirls, #80 may also help with those.

Any chance of pics of the surface, or more info on what you are working on, tools to use, etc? Not quite sure about where he left you off at.

Thanx everybody! All I can say is....WOW!

What was fascinating about the product was you could feel it working. As you can see in the pic, the results are excellent. Thats pretty neat when the paint reflects as well as the glass.
