  • Is it safe to dry like this?

I know this probably a stupid question, but is it safe to dry like Meguiar's does in the Quik Tips washing video? Some people tell me to drag the MF towel across to pull the water off (they say it prevents scratches). Whenever I just rub the towel around to dry, it feels rough (maybe I need to clay). What is a good drying technique with a MF towel?

Also, do you clay when the car is wet or after you dry?

Well, assuming the towel is good quality, and the surface is clean, it wont hurt to 'drag'. But the main thing is not using a lot of pressure, or causing pressure points. Just light wipes, towel folded over to spread out pressure.

Now, as far as feeling rough, sure, it may need clayed, cleaned, waxed, etc if it hasnt been before.

As noted above, just keeping things gentle. Some people will blot instead of wipe. Some will use an air gun/ clean leaf blower.

I tend to do one gentle wipe with one towel to get most of the water, and then one with a dry towel to get the rest. If just doing a car wash, I will use a Spray Wax during the final wipe step.
Also, do you clay when the car is wet or after you dry?
Either way. Tend to use a little less QD when the car is wet. But then you have to keep the car from drying out and spotting, so rinsing every so often, etc.

I bought an electric leaf blower to use just for drying vehicles. I use the flood technique first then towel dry then I use the leaf blower to get all the places that water collects in like door moldings, window sills, where the mirror attatches to the door and stuff like that. You want a new leaf blower, one that has never been used, so you don't risk blasting a bunch of leaf litter at your car. I will then clay after the car is dry, but that is my preference I guess!
