  • Why is UW so hard to remove?

I did my detail before the winter season hits. I did some correction in some places with UC and then topped it with wax using a G110v2 and a finishing pad on speed 3. I'll start by saying the I love the finish that UC provides. There was no need to use UP following the compound. I then waxed the whole truck and let it set for one hour in the shade, temperature was in the 70's. After an hour I removed the wax using a MF towel. It was so hard to remove the wax. When I moved the truck into the sun you can see blotches of wax all over the metallic black paint. I pressed really hard to remove the wax, however I couldn't do this for the whole truck because it's a full size truck and my arm was starting to hurt. The next day after about 24 hours I used UQD to dust off the truck and apply another coat of wax. The temperature was warmer in my garage, about 90 degrees. To my disappointment I experienced the same results. I almost used more UQD to help in removing the wax.

So, has anybody experienced the same results? On lighter color vehicles this would be almost impossible to notice. On dark vehicles you can see the blotches of wax that refuses to come off. I have not experienced this with NXT 2.0. Would you use UQD to help in removing the wax? Anyways, I love the deepness UW provides. For this I will continue to use UW. Besides, the blotches of wax will be gone in a week after I wash my truck anyways. Here are some pics......

I couldn't get the blotches to show on the paint with a camera.

Did you use the UW liquid?

The short answer is that it is just a different type of product. Apply very thin, and either remove right away or soon after. A damp cloth or mist of water can help too.

The UW paste should be a bit closer to the Nxt 2.0 in technique.

Yes, I used the liquid with my G110v2 on speed 3. Next time I'll use a damp cloth I guess. I did apply the wax very thin. I added wax to the finishing pad maybe twice for the whole truck.

Just apply it per section, don't let it haze for too long, apply it, wait 3-5 minutes then remove.. For the UW paste, it's more traditional in that you apply it and let it haze, but not for too long. But blotchiness aside, your truck looks nice.

Thanks! But I don't think you are supposed to remove wax after 3-5 minutes. It takes at least 45 minutes for it to bond to the paint. This is very important when applying sealant.

Edit: Hmmm after reading the section about UW it does say remove after 3-5 minutes. Maybe this was the problem. I let it sit on the truck for about 45 minutes.

I had the same issue with ULW on my 2011 Race Red F150 SCab. I wiped the cloudy haze off with a bottle of Meg's QD. I then applied ULW to my '94 Oxford White F150, using the provided foam applicator. It was a completely different experience. Try applying the wax with the provided foam applicator. Ensure you apply an even, thin coat of ULW. Hopefully the hand application will work out better for you.

Not sure if I want to spend an hour waxing my truck by hand, or 15 minutes using my DA. I'll have to think about that one

I used UW for the first time yesterday and removed by hand with not having to use much effort at all,I used a clay bar on it first I had the DA ready just in case it was hard to remove but it was a breeze doing a section at a time.

                Regards Tony.

I'm beginning to think that I waited too long to remove the wax. Next time I will wait 3-5 minutes then remove.

Definitely the wait time is the issue, 45 minutes to an hour is a long time to wait. Also, use the swipe test to see if its ready to wipe off, as it may take a little longer than 5 minutes if its really warm. If your unfamiliar with the swipe test, do a search on these forums and there's some great threads on it.

It was definitely the wait time with the liquid version of this product. It really does seem to work better for most people if you apply to a panel and wipe off right away. There is no difference in level of protection or durability when doing this compared to leaving it on for a longer period of time and then wiping off, but the short "dry time" will almost always eliminate any sort of uneven appearance. This is not an issue at all with the paste version of Ultimate Wax - you can apply that to the entire vehicle and let dry for 20 minutes or longer and wipe off will be a breeze.

Thanks for the clarification Mr. Stoops! I would try the paste version but I love my G110v2 too much

Many people use a paste wax with a machine.

We know what you mean! Why not add to that love by picking up an S3BP and some 4" foam pads? That way you'll have smaller pads to use with the G110v2 in tighter areas, and you'll be able to easily apply a paste wax with the tool, too. Personally, I do this all the time as I love Ultimate Wax paste and good ol' M16 - applying them with a 4" finishing pad on the DA is fast and it lays down a very uniform and thin application that wipes off with ease.
