  • Clear Bra Removal

I bought a new car on Friday and had a clear bra installed at the dealer. There are a couple areas where there is dirt under the bra, so the dealership has very nicely agreed to pay for my installer to fix it; he's very experienced and does good work. I've read that damage can occur during the removal process, but from what I can tell only if there is aftermarket paint. I'm sure that's not the case, but I'm still worried that the paint could be damaged. Anyone on here have experience doing this and can offer some comfort and explain the process? I've get the "new car syndrome" and a bit of OCD to boot so this really worrying me.

you steam it off with a steamer.
no damage should occur. Your just removing the film from your car.
the process is, you steam it and peal. that's it. no chemicals no scrapping. Nothing to harm you paint.

      Re: Clear Bra Removal

When the clear bra is removed, you run the chance of loosing paint where the bra protected the paint from stone chips. Lets say a rock has hit the clear bra and the stone cracked the paint under the bra. This is where you can see damage when the bra is removed. You did not see the damage before brcause the bra was holding the paint in place. I'm not saying it will happen, however, it could.

^^^ highly doubt that has ever happened.
Have you seen this first hand or are you speculating?
Paint is very hard and unless there is already clear coat failure this won't happen. Also in the removal of a clear bra film your heating it up and gently pulling with very little effort. On the other hand if you just pull with all your might and not heat it properly I guess you could pull the paint off, but I seriously doubt it.

I have replaced all my clear bra. My car is 8 years old and I put on the first set when the car was new. After 3-4 years, I had them replaced because of the stone chips.
I recall the installer used a hair dryer to remove the clear bra.

I had a friend that had a clear bra on hid car for 3 years and then removed it and the paint in some areas came off with the bra. The paint was attached to the bra. In person, yes

as bought used and my friend want to remove the clear bra a year later. The bra looked in normal. Using a hair drier and IPA to remove the bra it pealed paint. Small areas in several spots, that is why I refered to what would look like a rock chip to me.

Just had the old bra removed and the new one applied. Everything went well! The bra came up with minimal adhesive left behind, and I was able to remove it with my finger. The bra peeled up with no steam or heat and didn't tear. So, much to my relief, it's all taken care of. Had Ben Long of Ace Automotive in Denver,CO do the work, for any one interested.
