  • 2012 Honda Civic VTI-L, Cobweb swirls.

Off the line in May 2012, DESO enhanced!

I initially just washed (dual bucket, Meguiars Gold class) & then applied NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0

I did however, dry with a chamois
Looked awesome ............. I then started reading up on all the tutorials here.....looked at the (Pearlescent black) paint in the direct sun......... Hundreds of spider webs!!....

Recommend as per hours of reading here??....

    1. Wash
    2. Ultimate Polish
    3. NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0

    or....

    1. Wash
    2. Swirlx
    3. NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0

    Appreciate any advice.

The main question, is do I need to remove the layer of NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 before I do the UP/SwirlX?

SwirlX could very well do the job for you though. I wouldn't bother trying Ultimate Polish, it really isn't that agressive as far as cutting goes. But hey, this hobby is all about testing and seeing what works best.

What I would do is just grab Ultimate Compound and see how it does. I wouldn't work it as aggressively as possible, but would step up if needed.

Your question about removing a layer of wax before doing this... No, for what its worth though, All the products you mentioned as well as myself (SwirlX, Ultimate Polish, and Ultimate Compound) all remove wax.
Always searching for the best.... Keep it country!

Being a black car, I would go this route, because polish is a must for dark colors. Wash, SwirlX. Ultimate Polish, Ultimate Wax.

Thanks for all the replies....not a good camera shot but the cobwebs are far more noticeable in the sun.

Re: 2012 Honda Civic VTI-L, Cobweb swirls.

I'd go swirlX first, UC may be too harsh and your paint may be a bit soft so it's still a bit of an unkonwn, UC may remove the minor swirls but if the paint doesn't respond well, the swirls may be removed but leave the finish with marring.. so go the less aggressive route first.

          1. Carwash
          2. clay
          3. SwirlX
          4. Ultimate polish (polish with a small amount of cleaners), or Pure Polish (M07 or Deep Crystal) or even ColorX. Polishing is a must for black cars, it will make a difference in the depth, richness and give an even wetter looking finish as well as allow the megs waxes to bond even better to the paint.
          5. Wax/Sealant-Choice of Ultimate Wax (liquid or paste), NXT 2.0 (no longer the best, but a proven product), or Gold Class carnauba plus (not the most durable of the 3, but can beat the rest in terms of depth, richness or wetness of shine)
          6. Regular car wash (Gold Class, Deep crystal or Ultimate Wash and wax)
          7. Maintain with UQD for light dust removal and UQW after every car wash (maybe once a week) if not using Ultimate Wash and Wax.

Nice results! Glad to be of help, now the hard part is keeping it swirl free... Well, if swirls come out of nowhere and you don't feel like re-correcting the paint, I'll just apply a glaze to conceal it for a while rather than doing another 4 hour detail job..

Black paint looks awesome when detailed properly, but hell to keep swirl free...

I also bought some Ultimate Quickwax for the weekly wash........what product do you recommend in relation to a "glaze"?

Something to apply weekly after the wash...or is Ultimate Quickwax okay?

UQW is great to apply following weekly washes - it smells nice, is easy to apply, and helps maintain your finish. Some have noted it conceals fine swirls, too!

Now.....you just spent so long on the car.........a friend sees you and drives along side for a way.......stops together at the same workplace....." you need to watch how your polishing the car, you can see swirl marks"

                          Like........****!

Couldn't see any myself & was told they were only noticeable to him because he knew I'd spent so long doing it.

I did come across a thread here though, after the fact, about not polishing like a mad man......slowly does a better job to allow the product to disperse.....I'll try it next time.

Still ultra happy with the look I achieved.......you do notice the areas you have missed in the sun, as in the crevices.....looks like it will be a five hour job next time.

My specialty here lately is on black cars. Cut your work in half and invest in the Meguiars DA kit. It comes with everything you need, including instructions. My customers love this process and it only takes at most 2 hours. Move it in straight lines not circles, move your machine slowly and wipe off in straight lines, not circles. The results are outstanding. The sealant will protect your paint. I have been only using this for two months, my customers say that their cars look like the day I did the process. Check it out and Good Luck.
