  • Clay Bar on Overspray

    Hello everyone,

I've recently become interested in using clay bar on my car since I had gotten some krylon enamel spray paint on it (very fine dots that you can see up close).

However, problem is that these fine enamel paint particles have sat on my car exterior since last winter.

Will clay bar still remove these overspray/enamel paint particles?

    Thanks.

It should still remove most of them. If not, you could try a more aggressive clay.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Yeah, trying to be gentle at first would be nice, but you may end up needing something stronger, either clay or one of the clay towel type things.

But when you get to the stronger products, you have a risk of causing some swirls that would need fixed up after.

Would using something like : http://www.walmart.com/ip/Meguiar-s-...y-Kit/16386193 do the trick?

Also correct me if I am wrong but clay bars do not dull the coat right? As I don't plan on buffing/sealing after the process.

The SS Clay kit, or other mild clays, would be the 'gentle' things to try first. And no, they wont dull or cause any swirls when used with plenty of lubricant.

However, it is gentle.... and old paint could be stubborn.. so may not remove everything easily. If you find that you really have to push and work the clay against the paint to remove the overspray, or move to a more aggressive product.. then the chance of causing some swirls will go up.

could you recommend a more "aggressive" meguiar product that could be purchased at say walmart?

            Thanks

Hmm.. Probably not. Most 'general' retailers will stick to the mild side of things.

You can look around for the Meguiars Professional Red Clay (Aggressive).

As a side note, the Professional Blue Clay (Mild) is a little stronger than the SS Clay, so may be a good idea if you can find it. You would just have to buy the Quick Detailer Spray separately.

Other than that, you would be looking at things like the Speedy Surface Prep Towel, or a Magna Sponge type of thing.

What part of Canada are you in? Maybe someone near by knows of some shopping idea.
