  • Problem!!! Need Help

    Hi guys,

So about a month ago, i realised after looking very closely at my car, there were little dots EVERYWHERE over the car. It looked like very small, blue dots and i assumed it was just like dust or powder or something until i tried to dust it off/push it off with my fingers. It didn't seem to come off so easily, so that was when i was like uh-oh..this is real bad..i don't even think i instantly washed my car after establishing this, but i did give my car a wash and it didn't come off..i'm suspecting it was some kind of paint that somehow splashed onto my car from like industrial works or something. I tried clay-barring it off and although SOME of it comes off (with-alot of effort) i don't think clay bar is the appropriate way to treat it. The car ITSELF is in pretty immaculate condition and the spots are not noticeable unless you look very closely, but being a fussy owner, i would like to know how to deal with this. And also, it's basically all over the car, even my side mirrors..like what the hell ? how does it even end up there lol. It seems like the paint has already dried up and if i try and remove it now, it's like a stain that's been there for ages. I'm in bigg trouble lol. Anyways, it would be veryyy and i mean very appreciated if i got some advice and professional ways to go about removing this stuff without compromising the condition of my car.

    Thanks heaps in advance.

Clay does sound like the thing to use, though you may need a stronger one.

    What clay did you use?

The only bad thing is that a stronger clay can increase the chances of a little marring to have to fix up after.

I'm using the clay that comes with the smooth surface quik clay kit.

Increase the chances of marring ? Sorry, but what do you mean by marring ?

The only reason why i thought clay was inappropriate was because i had to apply some significant amount of pressure in an attempt to get rid of the dots, and i thought clay was a thing you didn't need to apply excessive pressure to. Also, i'm not 100% sure on this one but i think by the excessive use of clay, my paint condition/quality was being compromised

Marring would be similar to minor swirls, caused from a strong product, or strong technique.

Assuming you are using plenty of lubrication (QD spray for instance), you wont be hurting the paint at all.

But you kind of come to the same place, with using either a mild clay with a lot of pressure, or a stronger clay with a bit less pressure. Going to risk some marring (minor swirls) either way.

You could look for the Meguiars Blue Clay, which is kind of a medium. The Red Clay is much stronger. Also, you can do a search for the clay towels that are starting to come out. They tend to fall in the medium/strong range I think. I'm not as certain what would be easiest to find in your area, though we do have several members there that may have shopping ideas.

          G'day James.

The blue clay sounds like a good idea, though you may be hard pressed to find it locally. You could order it from Autogeek in the US, or try another brand from waxit.com.au (they don't carry many Megs products).

Don't worry too much about any marring, as that is easily cleaned up later with a polish / compound.

I see the Car Pro Polyblock on there... could be an option maybe. That would be along the lines of the block/towels mentioned above that are newer types. Would have to supply your own lubricant.
