What sort of condition is the paint in? If it looks good, and you just want to keep it shiny and protected, then it is pretty simple.

If you just want a quick detail that covers all the steps, I like to do this:
    1. Wash - Gold Class soap, 2 buckets, good towels, etc
    2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay Kit
    3. ColorX
    4. Wax - Nxt 2.0, Ult. Wax, or other favorite.

    Or at the most basic,
    1. Wash
    2. ColorX

If you want to do a little more of each individual step, you can look at:
    1. Wash
    2. Clay
    3. Clean/Polish - Ult. Polish
    4. Wax
    5. Wax

If there are more defects to fix, or that you care about fixing, then we may need to look into other things.

You generally want to use a Smooth Foam applicator pad by hand, and then a good MF towel to remove the product.

Yes, for swirls and such, Ult. Compound is a good choice for a stronger cleaner.

You would want to do a test spot first, make sure it isnt too strong for the paint (leaving other swirls behind), and that you have your technique down before doing the whole car.

After Ultimate Compound, if there is still marring left by it, you may need a slightly finer cleaner (swirlX) or cleaner polish (ultimate polish) to further refine the paint. After the cleaner polish like ultimate polish, a pure polish may not be needed anymore.

However, if the results are already good (no marring, nothing but clear reflections) then you may apply a pure polish.

Polishing with a pure polish (no cleaners or abrasives) like Deep Crystal Pure polish or M07 show car glaze is an optional step. This is partly because pure polishes will really make a dramatic difference on dark paint (blacks or other dark colors) and to apply it on light colors may not be worth the extra step since it is hard to bring out depth on light colors.

After all that, apply your wax/sealant.
