  • Meguiars Ultimate Trio

Last weekend I hit up my 2011 Hyundai Sonata with my new PC7424xp using Ultimate Compound (LC Orange pad speed 5 and 6), Ultimate Polish (LC White Pad speed 5), and Ultimate Liquid Wax (LC Grey Pad speed 3.5ish). The results are great -- a nice deep dark color and lots of shine. But yesterday I hit my car with some Quick Detailer, and I notice quite a bit of smearing that wasn't there after I finished detailing in over the weekend.

Should I be using a different product to "quick detail" my car? After misting the QD, I felt really was having to wipe quite a while to to remove the oily smears.

it could be the oils left from the compound and polish mixed with the detailer. try washing car after polish before wax. Also, did you notice much difference with the polish after ultimate compounding? Sometimes i feel as the ultimate compound left a good enough shine for me to follow with just wax.

The UQD/#135 is nice to use for light dust, but not sure that would help your issue.

Often, a little smear will just fade on its own, eps if you find you are really spraying a lot in one area.

The same occured to me the first time I used ULW on my 2011 Ford F150. I used Meg's red bottle Quick Detailer and a few MF towels to wipe off some minor haze the day after, no smearing noted.

After removing polish/wax, I will always wipe again with a clean micro fiber cloth Just to make sure every thing is off, I have a white 150.

I'll try this suggestion (washing after a polish and before a wax) in the fall, when I plan on another full detail -- sans UC.

I did notice that UC left a really good finish after a full work-in. There wasn't any hazing that I could tell, but followed up with UP just in case.

            Thanks, all, for your responses

So, even after a few uses of Quick Detailer, my next car wash resulted in this:

              And this:

I feel like maybe I had put UW on too thick, but this is what my results have been with the product 3 different times -- two times applied by hand with what I thought was a very thin layer of product, and the third time with a DA.

                That looks like light swirls/holograms.
You didn't let any of the compounds/polishes dry, did you?
I have had UC leave small scratches such as in this picture if I ever let it dry.

Yes, they look like swirls/holograms, but I assure you they are not. You can take your finger, and swipe across, and leave more oil streaks in a different direction. The same to be said with using different dry microfibers when drying the car -- if I move a new/dry microfiber in a different direction, the oil streaks will follow.

I never let any of the products dry -- UC, UP, or ULW. The oily streaks weren't visible at all after I did the detail last week, but started to show very slightly when using QD a few days after.

What kind of towels do you use and how do you wash them?

That looks like residue left over from either wax or polish or a mix of both. You can try wiping it down with Isopropyl Alcohol , IPA can be had at just about any pharmacy or drug store.

I waxed my car with turtle wax ice before and the results looked like your picture, I did an IPA wipe down to start again on a clean surface.

Wouldn't an IPA remove the wax/oils that are supposed to be protecting the paint?

I use two of these to dry my car:

Then, I used whatever black microfiber came with my Meguiars Ultimate Wax box -- keeping in mind I washed it after it's last "wax removal" use.

I wash all my microfiber towels in the washing machine using All :

I dry the MFs in the dryer, on medium, with no fabric sofenter.

Yes. IPA will remove any polish and wax that's on the surface, You would have to re apply the wax after.

I've noticed that applying a wax heavy and then buffing it off lightly will leaves streaks on the paint like in your pictures. At first it looks great, but then a day later in the sunlight and with certain angles , it looks like there are holograms and swirls every where . I've had this happen before too, and sometimes they go way after a couple of washes followed by light buffing with a clean MF towel . I should have said this before, but an IPA wipe down would be the last option because I bet you wouldn't want too do all that work again.

We'll see how it all looks after next weekend's wash. I do appreciate everyone's responses.

I really want to like this combination of product because of how nice it looked after the detail, but it's just very oily afterwards when using QD or even just a simple car wash. I can't imagine applying it any thinner than I recently did with the DA.
