  • What is this, and how to remove?

Hi guys I am busy detailing my dads BMW X5.
    The process is as follows
Wash, clay, Ultimate Polish, Show car glaze #7 and finally Gold class wax.

The problem is that I have found some rather odd stuff on the sides to the rear of the front wheels.
I am unsure of whether this is tar or tree sap but either way I am unable to remove it with claying nor with polishing (have tried Ultimate Compound as well).

Please excuse the quality of the pictures but that is the best I can do.
Does anyone have any idea what exactly that is and what is the best way to remove it. Claying doesn't appear to be able to remove them.
Currently all I have found that works is kind of scratching it with my finger nail then ultimate compound to remove the last bits.
Basically this only works on the very small ones.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice you guys can give.

Looks like road tar to me. You could try a specialized product like TarX to remove it.

Or my favorite: Turtle Wax Bug & Tar Remover. Works like a charm! The spray bottle is only $4 at Walmart. For large drops of goo spray lots, let it soak, then wipe off. Always use a clean portion of the rag.

Thanks guys. I am actually located in South Africa so it doesn't look like I will be able to get the TarX.

Meguiars and Turtle Wax are generally the only options available in stores here.
I can get Autoglym - Intensive Tar Remover but that will only arrive mid next week so not really the best option.

So unless the Autoglym is really much better I will go tomorrow and see what I can pick up.
