[Car Potential]

Wanted to know if you guys wax the windshield and windows. I waxed my windshield and windows for the first time with UQW and am happy with the results. The windshield always collects dust and dirt very fast and then when I use my wipers it helps with my visibility but when you look at the car from afar you can see the wiper marks and then the dirt around the wiper marks.

When I used UQW on the windshield dust will still collect but less of it. You can still see the wiper marks if I use them but there is less dust around the wiper marks. The side windows aren't that big of deal but I still like to use UQW on them and the back window stays cleaner so I will continue to use UWQ on the windshield and windows. I wouldn't use regular wax though since UWQ puts a nice thin coat which is all that is needed.

I tend to give the glass a good cleaning, then use RainX as a 'base'. Then after future washes, I just UQW everything, glass included.

Works quite well for me, though sometimes people will have issues. Seems to be a bit random, just different glass/wiper combinations I guess.

I keep the wax on the paint only, but if you are having good luck doing it then by all means. You could always try a product like RainX, I know a lot of people really like it. I just clean my class as often as I feel like (it's usually fairly dirty honest, hah).

I do like murr said. I RainX the front windshield probably once every 2 months. Side Windows maybe every 6 months if that. I use UQW in between though on all glass. Normally once every 2 weeks minimum.

UQW? Would it interfere with the working of RainX, making RainX less effective?

No, the UQW seems to just boost the RainX like it does the regular wax.

For what it is worth, I hated RainX. It smeared, caused rainbows, and the wipers chattered. Yes, I followed the directions. Now I use M16 on all my windows, the the rain just runs off. Rarely do I even have to put the wipers on at highway speeds, and when I do in a good downpour,, the results are exceptional.

I have M16 as well, I will give it a try. Is there any special surface preparation for M16? I applied RainX two months ago, there should lot be any RainX left on my windshield.

I don't like wax on the front windshield because of the flash, both from lights in low light and dark, as well as when the wipers swipe. Rain-X offers the least amount of flash, to the point that I don't see it any more. There are two downsides to Rain-X (1) it isn't the longest lasting option, most waxes last longer and (2) most windshield washer fluid types bugger up the Rain-X, to the point that it's worse then not having any at all. That's why I use Rain-X washer fluid as well. I find it's fairly easy to apply.

The best application is when it's aloud to dry over night. With a clean window, good application, and allowed to dry over night it'll last 4 to 5 weeks during the rainy winter months.

Also, some waxes are well suited for windows, they tend to really, really smear during the "wax off."

I clay first, and then apply the M16 by hand. The clay should take off any residual RainX. As on the paint, apply 16 very thin.

I would imagine that the wax would leave a white film on the windshield which would be hard to remove, right?

As Blueline said, if you're going to do this you need to apply the wax very thin.

We don't really recommend doing this because people tend to seriously over use wax, and if you don't wipe it off properly you run the risk of the wax smearing at the worst possible time - at night when it's raining. Still, those who do, like Blueline here, don't seem to have any problems doing so but they also really understand how to properly apply wax. A very little bit goes a very long way - the old adage of "if some is good, more is better" really has no place in detailing as it's generally very counterproductive to the whole process.

As Michael says, some people over use the wax on their windshields and end up with a mess. Also, you MUST have a clean windshield. Clay will do a good job. One last thing, if your windshield is severely pitted or already has wiper marks in the glass, wax will NOT work.
