  • Do I need a separate polish if I'm using Swirl Remover?

Hi everyone. Newbe here. I have a 2010 black Lexus that has swirl marks in it due to a detail job. That was first & LAST time I let anyone wash or touch my car. Prior to that I was using dual wash buckets, one way wash movents etc, so the swirl marks are 99% from the detail job.

I've been doing a lot of reading & have my plan of action. 1) wash 2) Clean (scratch x or swirl remover) 3) Polish (Deep Crystal Polish) 4) Protect (NXT Generation Tech Wax Paste). I'm doing it all by hand. I know, I know, it'll be painful & will take some time. hahaha

My question is, I already have Swirl Remover #9 (havent used yet) and I notice that it has polish IN IT, do I need to even get the Scratch X, since they are are both swirl removers? & since the #9 is a cleaner/polish, do I cut out the Deep Crystal Polish as well?

I'm trying to be smart w/my money & dont want to spend money on products I wont need.

Thanks for ANY feedback. Being a female, I'm totally new to this. hahaha

Yeah, no real need for a pure polish right now. If anything, I would consider that you may need a stronger cleaner since working by hand, but will just have to do a test spot/area and see how the #9 does.

And smooth foam applicator pads for applying the products.

      Welcome to Meguiar's Online.

After you wash your vehicle you may want to clay it (Smooth Surface Clay Kit has everything for that operation) to remove above surface bonded contaminants (your car shampoo isn't strong enough to do that) and to create smooth as glass paint surface. Claying will extend your wax/ protection period as well ensuring better bonding.

ScratchX or its current version ScratchX 2.0 are mostly used for isolated paint problems: scuff marks, small scratches, blemishes, etc, as you can see it by their small tube packaging.

In most cases M09 Swirl Remover will leave pretty good level of gloss after its application as it's a cleaner/ polish. It may not remove all defects in your paint however, it's not that aggressive, and it will depend on your paint hardness and level of defects.

If you work by hand products like Ultimate Compound (more aggressive) and SwirlX (less aggressive) provide good coverage.

Because you already have M09 in your arsenal give it a try.

        Thanks for the quick feedback.

AWE,,, yes, I see what you mean now about ScratchX being for isolated jobs (small packaging). Duh, never thought of that. And you're right, I did notice that the Swirl remover is only a level 4. Do you know of a list of meguiars more aggressive products & their level #'s? I'd like to move up gradually if the swirl remover isnt enough. Also, would claying take the place of the swirl remover (or whatever one I end up using) or is it just an additional step, after the wash & before the swirl remover?

        Thanks..

Clay is a separate step after the wash.

If #9 doesnt do much for you, SwirlX would be a small step up. But working by hand... Ult. Compound wouldn't be a bad product to jump to after.
