  • Ultimate Black/Mirror Mounts

I have a 96 civic with a good amount of exterior trim that I am applying Ultimate Black to.

But I am unsure weather to put in on the side mount mirrors casings. Yes there black, but the last 2 times when it rained or I washed the car the ultimate Black leaked badly.

Is there a way to tell besides the ovious leaking that the casing is not for ultimate black or any exterior trim dressing for that matter. It's black and shiny normally. But I don't like the faded streaks on it. And that's why I applied UB.

I would say one way to check is the texture of the black part/trim, or i would check for exactly the same model but with different colors. It may be that some civics with certain trim levels may have side mirror mounts that are also painted the same color as the rest of the car, or through age may have been smoothened or polished out an inadevertently developed gloss. So from textured plastic trim, it may have become shiny and smooth with age. In that case, I'd just use wax or spray wax in those smoothened out plastic parts instead of ultimate black

        Re: Ultimate Black/Mirror Mounts

I have a boat load of textured plastic on my truck: mirrors heads, bumper covers, cowling, blah blah blah.

Just for a try (is that another word for 'test'?) I used Ult Wax-LIQUID on them. After 'waxing' last fall, I still had some product on the pad (was using a DA to apply), so I just thought, why not?

After a winter, the surfaces still look good. A nice even black on all the surfaces.

I not going to say it will work that well on ALL plastic, but for me...I'll keep using it.

        Just my $.02...

Some plastics just arent as dressing friendly.

Ult. Quick Wax would be another good option, or testing the UW-Liq as mentioned above.

            Hey guys,

You've peaked my interest. ULTIMATE LIQUID WAX OR UQW on exterior trim? This sounds cool. Does it have any sorta gloss? I'm guessing the durability would be real good. Would it work to apply it over the Ultimate Black to sorta put a seal or protective barrier over it. If it worked to prevent leaking or bleeding that would be awesome!

I'd probably just try the UQW on its own. Or maybe over a dressing after a wash, not fresh. But, wont hurt to test it out.

                Re: Ultimate Black/Mirror Mounts

I just washed my truck this past weekend and used the Trim & Tire gel (D163) on all my textured palstic with great results! That is unitl i pulled it out of the garage into the rain... It ran like crazy down the sides of my truck bed where i had it applied to my bed caps. I'm hoping it ran because it didn't have enough time to set up before it got wet and not a characteristic of the product. Will a normal washing get it off my truck or do i need to be more aggressive in cleaning it?

A car wash soap, or even QD should be fine if it isnt sitting on the paint for too long.

                    Re: Ultimate Black/Mirror Mounts

I had let my Ultimate Black Cure after giving it an MF rubdown, then put a coat of ULW over that and buffed it. Earlier this week I applied my first coat of ULW. So tomorrow going to lay down my second and final full car ULW. So after tomorrow I will have layed down to wax coats on my paint AND TRIM. Gonna see if that protects my trim form any more leaking or bleeding on paint and durability.
