  • Safest way to strip wax/dressings?

    Hi all-

Wondering what the best/safest way to strip off wax and dressings in a wash is?

I was thinking a few washes with Dawn before claying would do the trick, but I realize it's not the best for my clear coat. Or would one or two "Dawn washes" a year not really matter?

I'm open for other suggestions, thanks-

Before, I used clay and paint cleaner to strip the wax off my car. Now, I use clay and Ultimate Compound. I only do full detailing once a year.

I do not use Dawn but I heard that Dawn will dry off the rubber trimming.

I'm talking pre-claying & UP (I don't feel the need to compound yet, the paint is in good condition...).

The car wont explode if you use Dawn... But the clay and UP will be able to get remove old wax.

If the wax is very fresh, like a couple days, it seems to hurt a bit. But after a couple months, the regular products will be fine, no need for anything else.

Of course if you really felt like it, Car Pro makes a product to remove all the oils, and there are a couple citrus wash products I think.

We agree with all of the above. One Dawn wash won't ruin your paint, but there are better alternatives. Another thing to consider - how long ago did you last wax your car? If it's been more than 3 months there probably isn't much wax left anyway so there's no need to use any special process to remove what's left. A quick clay and light paint cleaner will remove the last of it.
