  • Wanted: Dark Wet Look

I have a black metallic paint and was trying to determine what the best would be for a dark & wet look.
I was thinking Gold Class topped with M26
Does this sound good or is there a better choice.
Also, would there be a difference betwwen paste or liquid?
    Thanks
    Rick

Quick answer.....Meguiars Synthetic X-Press Spray Wax. I order mine from ADS. This product is the easiest to use and the results are fantastic on dark colors! It really does produce a WET look and is great on black plastic trim and glass too!

I would go with nxt 2.0 topped with m26 looks great and can even top that with ultimate quick wax. Make sure to clay and polish before all this to get the best results.

I would go with NXT or UW as a base layer for durability and then top with Gold Class, use Syntetic Xpress or UQW to boost durability between washings, and if you want to add a little extra pop, use the new Gold Class Quik Wax for special occasions.

These are some good ideas, but I'm working by hand so would it be possible to polish and I've heard some folks have trouble with UW?

You can polish by hand it does not do as much ,but it puts oils in the paint for more gloss. I would use ultimate polish very easy to use and has lots of oils. On my black car I
              Wash and Dry
              Clay
              Ultimate polish
              Nxt 2.0
              m26
Then use ultimate quick wax after the weekly wash

You wan't Black car to look wet? It's not the final product as much as it is in PREP work. All product mentioned above will work great but you need to Wash, Clay, Ultimate compound or Ultimate polish and only then you seal it or wax with your favorite wax or sealer. Doing it by hand is almost impossible to do a great job. I been there and tried that.

                  Re: Wanted: Dark Wet Look

Ask 20 people and you will get 20 different answer's. I am currently hooked on Ultimate Polish and Ultimate Liquid Wax and it's ease of use. It really pops on my wifes 2011 Bordeaux Red Metallic Fusion, my 2011 Race Red F150 and my previous 2007 Blue Pearl Metallic F150.

I would then top the UW with Gold Class and the new Gold Class Carnauba Plus Quick Wax at every wash. It looks fantastic on dark vehicles; you will not be disappointed.

                    Re: Wanted: Dark Wet Look

As many guys mentioned before - surface preparation is the key: above surface contamination removal (claying), below surface defect removal (scratches, water spots, oxidation, etc) and polishing paint to high gloss.

From my experience Ultimate Polish or M205 Ultra Finishing Polish work great in polishing step.
Ultimate Paste Wax works great on dark metallic colors and optional layer of a natural/ carnauba wax could be added (after at least 24 hours) if desired.

                      Re: Wanted: Dark Wet Look

I would prep the car first. Clay, then Ultimate Compound for severe oxidation or swirls/defects, then swirlX or Ultimate Polish. If done right, will leave your paint with that deep, glossy wet look. The shine from whatever wax you use would be small, barely noticeable, since the shine itself would come from the actual surface prep/correction.

Gold Class Carnauba Plus would be good for that deep wet look you're after, but may not be the most durable wax from meguiar's. Topping with M26 is ok, but you may want to try it out on a panel first rather than the entire car. This is to see if there is any difference or added benefit in adding the m26 in terms of gloss. NXT 2.0 or UW would serve as a better (more durable) base for the M26. But if durability isn't your priority, then Gold Class Carnauba Plus should be ok. Just use the quick detailers and quick waxes (ultimates for durability, gold class for looks).

Paste and liquid, basically personal preference. Liquids are usually easier to apply than paste waxes, durability is just about the same. I have experience with the paste/liquid with the NXT 2.0, liquid is definitely easier to apply and remove, but with the paste, you can get more applications per container than the liquid. It also tends to make me apply the wax more methodically than the liquid, and I find that it doesn't have the tendency to streak. Durability between the 2 waxes is the same.

I use pure polish M07 and then put M26 over it and I then feel like a magician.

                          Re: Wanted: Dark Wet Look

Ah yes, M07 show car glaze.. Highly recommended for dark paints, really adds depth, shine, and wetness to the look of the paint. Can be a bit tricky to use, but once mastered is really worth the extra step. Black paint will look even darker and richer with M07, and in my experience, also bring out the metallic flakes. This step will more than satisfy your need for that deep wet look.

                            Re: Wanted: Dark Wet Look

How you achieve the elusive "deep, wet, dark shine" is going to depend on the current condition of the car, what tools you have on hand to work with, and how well you prep the finish. Do all of the prep work correctly and the finish will look better than it ever has before you even think about what wax or sealant you want to finish with.

How old is the car in question here? What sort of condition is it in currently? Are you working strictly by hand or with a buffer of some sort? There are a few different paths to this "deep, wet, dark shine" nirvana, but the wax alone isn't going to get you there. In fact, once you do achieve a truly amazing finish with the proper prep work, the wax you do select is going to be a pretty personal choice; you'll find almost as many suggestions for wax selection as there are waxes available to choose from.

The car is a 2012 Malibu. I've owned it about 6 months, don't know how long it sat on the lot. I've kept up with washing and the mild winter helped. The paint looks real good, but I'm a novice. I'll be working by hand.
