  • Waxing wheels vs. wheelwax?

I've seen the fancy new spray on BDB, and in fact just used it on my winter wheels prior to putting them up for storage. Application is easy enough but I cant help but wonder if it really is the best option. I've always just used wax before this, and in fact my summer wheels are sporting NXT2.0 at the moment, which has always worked well for me. Has anybody tried the paste style wheel waxes such as the appropriately named Wheel Wax or its competitor from DP? If so, are they really worth the premium price over a quality synthetic like NXT, or even for that matter the frequent use of a regular cleaner wax?

Wow, not a single reply? I thought it was a pretty good question...

I have seen dedicated wheel wax on Auto Geek or Autopia but I've never used it on my vehicles. I currently use Color X on my painted and coated alloy wheels. It seems to work really well and lasts around one month.

On our 99 bmw, it gets brake dust quite easily. I used collinite 845, makes cleaning a lot easier, maybe once a month since wheels have a hard time with brake dust, heat, durability is compromised.

It is a bit pricey, it can help in protecting the wheels from dust and keep it looking good. But you're still going to clean your wheels anyway, I'd just clean regularly then use wax or a cleaner wax, or a product specifically for a particular type of wheel.

Any comments on this: unfortunately I won't see this car again, but I tried D301 Finishing Wax on a Dyna-cone on some clear coated rims. Wonder if the wax lasted at least for the drive from my shop to owner's home (30 miles)???
