Below is a post I made on another forum. After posting most people suggested that I have pits in my windshield. Does anyone agree/disagree? If I do, can I take them out? I was thinking maybe UC and one of the pads that goes on a drill that comes with one of the headlight kits (I have a wool and a foam).

This spring I washed my car using standard cashwash. Clayed everything including the windshield. Rain-x on the windshield. When driving I noticed I still have sparkles (really small dots) on my windshield. I thought these were sap or something else that I picked up over the fall or winter but did not come off. I recleaned the windshield with invisible glass twice and reapplied rain-x. Still there. Windshield washer fluid from the car and the gas station made no difference. So lots of soap and solvents have been applied. Maybe I need something stronger? I assume these aren't smal pits?? They are too small to feel easily by touch. I thought about using an abrasive also but that seems risky. Any suggestions?

Ultimate Compound has safely been used on auto glass to clean off contaminants.
Can you post a picture of the dots?

I will try to get a picture. Might not turn out well.

I am wondering if the dots are pits if I can remove them with UC? It was also suggested that I use steel wool if they are contaminants. We didn't have much of a winter here this year, so I didn't have any major encounters with sand or salt so I suspect they are contaminants. If so, they are very resistant!

Your sure there not pits in the glass?. Try using a clay bar on the window that will be your best option

I'm in central Ohio so not much of a chance for exposure to salt or sand. Likewise I typically drive only 15 miles per day. Car is outside all the time, however.

I did use Megs white clay already on the windshield. I ran out of the detailer so had to use some adams but seemed to pick up stuff on the rest of the cr.

Do they use gravel or cinder on the roads

                Re: sparkly windshield

Lately they have been using the large rock salt and (sometimes) sand. But we have a very mild winter this year so I drove through the stuff perhaps twice. I would normally suspect I have contamination (not chips) but since they have stayed despite so many treatments I am not sure.

Yeah, it does start to sound like some type of 'sandblasting' effect...

I have pits in my glass. Don't know if they are all pits. Might have to try the clay bar and see if anything cleans up on it.

UC is safe for glass? How should it by applied?

You may apply it by hand or with DA and I would tape off the trim prior to application of UC.

If your glass truly has pits...nothing that you use for paint is going to remove them. Cerium Oxide is used to polish glass and it should be done by a Pro if you decide to go that route. UC works great on glass from what I have read and does a good job of removing water spots.
                            Black......the ONLY color!

Correct you are. Although, it will allow JG_Detailing to clean the windshield which will allow for a more thorough evaluation of the glass surface.
