  • Compound and Polishing - Noob question

    Sorry for the noob question.

When you're polishing are you only polishing only the swirled areas? For example if you're using Meg 205 and meg 105, do you only use the 205 on the swirled areas and use 105 for the whole car?or do you only apply these products on swirled areas?

    Thanks.

i would imagine that if you have swirls in one spot then you have them all over so i would use the compound to get the swirls out then the polish. i personally am kinda new to this too and have not used 105 or 205, i'm sticking with the consumer line of products for now, but i have also read that you want to use the least abraisive/aggressive product to get the job done. i guess my advice, which is in no way professional, would be to wash, caly, go over the whole thing with your compound especially if this is the first time you are taking care of your car then polish then wax. that's the plan of attack for my vehicles anyway. i'm sure someone more knowledgable than me will chime in on this too. good luck!

Well, you got your numbers reversed in the example...

But in general, if one area of the car was badly swirls/scratched, you could use the stronger product on that area. Then you would go over everything with the milder cleaner to even it out, and do the general cleaning for the rest of the car.

Of course if the entire car was swirled up as mentioned, you would need to use the stronger cleaner on everything.

(These examples assume that a test spot with the milder product did not fix the problem)
