  • White with matte black

Was hoping for a change from all black, but this...?

2011 Camaro white with matte black stripes. Did a search and the recommendation seems to be don't touch the stripes, except with Ultimate Quik Detailer. Seems odd to keep something matte to use UQD.

How was this car painted at the factory? Matte black stripes and clear coat entire car or glossy paint all over and "fogged" clear over stripes or matte black and no clear over stripes??? I guess the detailing process is the same, avoid doing anything to the stripes. Just hope the dealer didn't touch it yet.

    Comments welcome.

    Re: White with matte black

The car was delivered today. Stripes are vinyl. Is Ultimate Quik Detailer the preferred/recommended product? After taping them off, may need to wipe them off.

      Are the stripes not sticker/decals?

the stripes on your car are vinyl. clean with water/alcohol mix. apply any quick detail spray . when you wax, apply to stripes also. no need to tape them off.I do the installations for most of the chevy dealers in this area. I've done 50 -60 cars in the last 2 years. never had a problem.

Waxing won't defeat the matte effect?

Tape is more to protect stripes from buffer. Some scratches and scuff marks I want to clean up.

            Re: White with matte black

if your stripes are from the factory and not an aftermarket kit that the dealer had installed, you'll be fine. the matte color of the vinyl is actually covered with a layer of satin clear to protect the color. most high grade vinyl is made like this. thats why you have to be careful where you buy your kits. cheaper kits don't have this feature.

                Thanks for the help.

I wiped the stripe down with "Eraser" from CarPro and then waxed 1/2 of a stripe with M21. The stripe as you can see darkened, but did not appreciably increase in gloss.

The waxed side is on the right side.
