  • Meguiars DA Microfiber system

    Hey guys,

I was wondering what the cons are for using the 6" pad system with the portercable? I know it's recommended that I use the 5" pads on the PC but I received the 6" pad system as a gift and I cannot return.

    Thanks

If your PC is 2nd generation then you're OK with 6" pads. I have the Porter Cable 1st generation and I use Meguiar's Soft Buff 2.0 which is 7 inches. It does fine for me. I use speed 5 for correction and my guess is that when others can use SwirlX with a more powerful DA I must us UC. If I have some really nasty swirls to correct I'll use the MF system. With a DA the bigger the pad the less correction power you have. Thanks.

I also have the 1st generation, bought it couple years ago and havent detailed my car for awhile so I am just getting back into it.
Oh okay, so basically there will just be less cut with the 6" as opposed to using the 5"? Guess that just means a couple more passes.

      Thanks!

That's right. Some of these guys do this for a living so time is money but for me I do it for the thrill of the shine and the relaxation. Enjoy.

OK, let's back up a second here. OmeGa101 is asking specifically about the DA Microfiber Pads and lots2learn jumped in with information on the Soft Buff 2.0 and other foam pads. Not really an apples to apples comparison here (at least not totally).

A couple of things with the different sized pads in the DAMF System and their use on a DA. Yes, just as with foam pads you will get a bit less cut on the larger microfiber pads when using a DA, but your choice of backing plate has to be taken into consideration as well. You do not want to use the W68DA backing plate that comes with the G110v2 and is recommended for use with the Soft Buff 2.0 pads. You also do not want to use the W67DA either as it's too narrow to fully support the 6" DAMF dics. You'll want either our S6BP or another 6" diameter backing plate with a micro hook attachment system. This is critical for heat management and pad life on a DA since regular use of these pads means pretty aggressive use, and that can generate a lot of heat at the pad to backing plate interface, even with properly synchronized hook & loop system.
