I went to look at a car my friend's father is willing to sell to me. It is a 1961 Ford Thunderbird Convertible. He bought from a woman in 1972 and it has basically sat in an unheatd building for 40 years with very little driving. Maybe 20 miles of driving in the last 30 years. Paint is not bad, faded, but I think clay/compound/polish/wax would make it shine.
The interior of the car is free of rips and tears and looks nice except the seats and console have what I would say is mold on them. I couldn't really tell if it is vinyl or leather. The car was kinda wedged in between other cars they have and I could only reach in through the open windows. The material feels good except the mold.
My question is do you think they can be cleaned or would I have to have the interior redone? The dash pad cover must have shrinked a little over the years, maybe from moisture as the corners by the doors is kinda pulled away. Dash pad cover would probably have to be recovered.
If anyone is wondering, that is an unrestored 1970 Plymouth Superbird 440 6-pack with 28,000 original miles on it next to the T-bird. Moldy interior in that one also.
