  • Help With Detailing Frequency?

    Hi all,

I decided to take the time and register to thank everyone here for their activeness in the forums.. I really just started detailing my new accord euro a couple of weeks ago and I found the forums utterly helpful. Cheers for that. I have done a full detail close to a month now includes the whole wash clay polish and wax. Do you believe if I do a full run once a month would be an overkill?? I do use UQD and UQW after weekly washes..

Why UQD and UQW after washing? Just UQW would be fine.

As far as how often, using the mild products like that every month would be fine. However, UQW after each wash should push your wax longer than a month.

Really, what you want to do is get a good feel for how the car looks, feels, and sheets water when freshly detailed. Then, when it stops looking/sheeting, etc the same way after washing, you can start to thing about detailing again.

Thanks Murr.. Ya I guess I better get used to look and feel before turning it into a routine.

Here is my routine...About every 3 months, I will clay, and use ColorX followed up by Ultimate wax (I prefer the paste, but will use liquid as well). I alternate UQD and UQW after each weekly wash. I do this 3 times a year. If I am feeling bored, or just want to play around, I will throw a quick coat of GCCP, or #26, or #16 on the car between sessions, but don't always do that. It is mostly just for me to blow off some steam, not really the car needing it. The 4th detail of the year is Clay, some spot use of UC (just where needed as the cars were compounded/polished out about 18 months ago) and using either SwirlX, or UP followed by two layers of UW Paste.

The Clay/ColorX/UW Paste is so quick, I can do my two cars in 6 hours. It gives me 85-90% of what the full compound/polish/wax does for looks. With UQD and UQW alternated after weekly washes, the car basically looks like it was just detailed each week. Simple, quick and above all, easy.

I do all this with my G110V2 and soft buff 2.0 pads. Polishing pad for the ColorX, finishing pad for the UW.

          Re: Help With Detailing Frequency?

Here where i live, i have to wax more frequently due to poorer environment, pollution, dust, grime, etc. So as much as i want a perfect or a least minimal swirls on the car's finish, i just clay maybe every 2 months or even less. For the swirls, i just conceal it with a good quality glaze/polish then straight to wax. I do that maybe once a month and maintain with a good wash and wax type of product, together with a quick detailer or spray wax. Seems overkill. but it is a necessity in polluted places like here in homeland. I enjoy it anyway, so no real concerns for me.

Even if i glaze and wax too frequently, i still use spray waxes/detailers on an almost weekly basis. Spray waxes i use weekly, ultimate quik detailer several times a week. Keeps the cars looking good too
