  • Pearl Black CRV

I just purchased a 2012 Pearl Black Honda CRV. I have had many cars over the year and tried many different products. I have recently discovered that Meguar's products are the only ones to use. I recently waxed mine with m26. I noticed that I have swirl marks and a few scratches already. What is the opinion as to what process to take to protect my car. I am asking what is everyone's suggestion to remove swirls and minor scratches (created by washing), then provide tthe ultimate protection for my paint. I thank all and anyone for there advise and time.

    Welcome

    What is your experience level?
What do you have to use?
    Do you have a buffer?

      First, to MOL!

I would suggest reading this article to get you started on the proper steps in detailing. Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle.

First thing in my opinion is to get yourself G100V2 and 5" backing plate along with few pads. Doing by hand IMHO is waste of time and the results will not be there. I have tried many different products but found out if you stick with basics you will be more then happy and in long run spend less bucks.

The first thing would be to prevent more swirls from showing up. Doesn't do any good to remove them, then add more. A coat of wax wont prevent a brush or coarse towel, or sand, etc from scratching the paint if it is dragged across.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

              Re: Pearl Black CRV

The color black teaches many of us on how to care for paint (prevent swirls, proper wash techniques) since blacks and dark paint reflects any imperfection that may have been formed or made due to poor practices. No wax/sealant will prevent these scratches from occuring. There are many possible routes to take depending on your car paint, budget and time constraints. Removing swirls is the easy (relatively) speaking part, but keeping your paint swirl free is the tough part. It will take practice to be able to wash or keep the paint swirl free.. The ultimate protection will come from maintenance, meaning removal of any contaminants/dirt before it starts to eat into the paint. Because those are what damatically shorten the life of wax/sealant thats why regular use of products like spray detailers and spray waxes helps a lot. they are fast and really provide that boost to existing waxes

                Thankyou
Im not sure how experienced i am. I have waxed a few cars in my days, but that does not equal experience. I have collected the following so far
                Ultimate Detailer
                M26
                NXT 2.0
                Ritch Leather
                Endurance Tire Spray
                A 6 in random orbital buffer/polisher
I am guessing that I need to use swirl x or scratch 2.0 then wax with NXT 2.0. Will need to check surface if needs to be clayed. Only have had car for two weeks. Thanks for the advice and time.

                  Re: Pearl Black CRV

Dont have to get it perfect the first time.... Just have to do what you can, shine it up, and then can work on defects more next time.

I would want to have SwirlX or Ult. Polish, and then Ult. Compound on my shelf, to have everything covered.

If it has not been clayed before, it is safe to assume it can be clayed. Esp if you are new to it as well. The clay can be stored and re-used, so not going to waste or anything. Just the QD would be used up.

                    Re: Pearl Black CRV

Thanks-I have watched the how to on washing. This seems to be the most important step. I washed my car this am with ultimate wash and wax, then dried. Car looks great, however when examinig up close and in sunlight you can see the fine swirl marks. I am going to pick up a clay kit today. I also have ultimate polish. Do you recommend swirl x or scratch 2.0 first. Also should I use my 6 in buffer/polisher to apply the products. I like your approach on going back and working on the defects. I want to have all of my products together, then be able to tackle a section at a time not push my self and loose focus. All of your advise and time is greatly appreciated.
My understanding of my process should be
                    1. Wash with Ultimate wash and wax
                    2. Clay the section I am to perfect
                    3. Then treat w/ Swirl x, scratch 2.0 or posibly Ultimate compound (this is where i'm not sure which one to use)
                    4. Then Ultimate polish
                    5. Finaly wax with NXT 2.0

                      Re: Pearl Black CRV

What type polisher do you have? If it's regular orbital stay away from it. You might do some irreversible damage to your clear coat.

                        Re: Pearl Black CRV

I believe ultimate polish is like swirlx with polishing oils in it, but you can try swirlx first if you have one already. Scratchx should work better on spot removal of scratches and not on big areas like you would when using swirlx or ULt compound or ult. polish. Applying the products with a buffer should be fine, you should or be able to apply them thinner and more even

                          Re: Pearl Black CRV

                          1. UW&W is a bit more expensive to use, and then detail after and basically remove, but up to you.
                          2. I would just clay the whole thing at once.
                          3. I wouldnt worry about ScratchX 2.0. If you have the Ult. Polish, I would try that on a test area. If it doesnt work, then the UC. And you'd know to just UC everything.
                          4. May need Ult. Polush after UC, just have to see.
                          5. wax
                          6. Wax - 2 thin coats are best

                          7. Maintain - UQW of GCQW after future washes if using a regular soap. Or UW&W.

It's a small 6 in radom / orbital buffer/polisher by Black & Decker. Is this ok or not. Evntually I want to get one from Meguire.

As long as your pads/bonnets are good quality, you would be ok. But I'm not familiar with whats available for that sort of thing.
